I'm a light sleeper and I wanted a smoother 'wake up call' each morning. I received this as a gift. It's about the size of a baseball. The cord goes into the back at an angle and thus far it's sort of stiff and not flexible.I'm usually awakened by just the light alone, though sometimes it does get to the sounds, I chose the birds. Sounds are nothing special, since I just use it as an alarm that's not too important to me. The buttons are pretty small and close together, and in the dark (even with the clock lit) you can't read them. I have trouble finding the button that turns it all the way off (instead of snooze). It's sort of easy to set, but there are several steps since it includes a yr/mo/day/temp (the default is 2008). I've had to reset it several times when I couldn't find the button to turn it completely off and actually took it into the other room so as not to wake my husband. The battery back-up doesn't seem to be retaining the settings when unplugged so that means more resetting and a potential missed wake up call.
It does the basic job but it's nothing special. Spend a little extra and get one with larger buttons.
