(More customer reviews)This clock is a delight - although probably more so for grandparents than for grandchildren. It's powered by three AA batteries, one for the clock mechanism and two for the music. Mine has been running for over a month and, judging by the accuracy of the time keeping, it is quartz-regulated. The delight is in the delicacy of its simulated set of miniature bells that play the carols. A light sensor regulates the audio volume in proportion to the surrounding brightness - no music is played in full darkness. This is apparently intended as a battery saving feature since the one-second "ticks", although mellow and mild, would be enough to keep a light sleeper awake and, in that case, the clock might better reside on a mantel than in a bedroom.
