(More customer reviews)Well, after buying a "Kit Cat" clock I wasn't expecting much in terms of quality...these novelty clocks are just that, and overpriced because of it. However the quality of this particular clock was a little better than I expected, The eyes are especially nice compared to Kit Cat clocks, although if it wasn't for the novelty you could buy a clock just like it for $10.
I only have 2 gripes though...the paint on the numbers wasn't all that well painted. For something you're going to be looking directly at that's a little cheap. Oh, and the clock is LOUD. It makes one grinding noise when the eyes move... gggrrrrOOOOWWWWWWWgggg ggggrrrrrOOOOOOOWWWWWWggggg and it just started another grinding noise that sounds like perhaps the clock keeping time. There are indeed 2 mechanisms in this clock, the part that runs the hands and tail and the gear box that runs the eyes. Quite annoying. Luckily it's in the kitchen and it's usually noisy in there, but I wouldn't plan on putting this in a bedroom.
The physical movement is also a bit fast for my taste; it's not subtle at all, and I think subtle would fit the style of this clock much better. The tail swings back and forth about twice a second. Say to yourself "one one thousand two one thousand three one thousand" and imagine it moving one sweep per syllable. The eyes move about half that speed but still they're more like blinking, not closing slowly like actual living cats tend to do. If the actions were half the speed I think it would be much better.
Quite frankly, I'm not sure if I would buy this clock again. Only time will tell if it grows on me or if the grinding annoys me to the point of deactivating the moving parts.
