A couple of things I've discovered by experimenting.
1. The clock needs to be leveled to work effectively. Just like hanging a painting, tilt too much to the right or left, and the tail has a hard time swinging.
2. Batteries...Batteries...Batteries. Cheap batteries will result in a weak swing, even if new. Use new Energizer or Duracell and you won't be disappointed.
I have two kit kat clocks, and at first the tail had some issues stopping and starting. Once I've figured out to level and use new strong batteries, they have both been working flawlessly, and the tail wags with more power than before.
