(More customer reviews)Before my son (the heaviest sleeper in the world) started college, I panicked because getting him awake and out of bed in the am was not fun. Music did not wake him up. The buzzer on the alarm did not wake him. I had a hard time rousing him at all..Every day was an ordeal for both of us. Then we found out he had an 8 am class first semester of his freshman year which was a potential disaster. I bought this alarm for him and he says he has made every 8 am class this semester but would not have been able to get up had he not had it. He has the alarm set far enough away from the bed that he cannot hit the snooze button without actually getting up. Even though he is a sound sleeper, he still only has to have it set on level 3 and it shakes the mattress hard enough to rouse him. But there is plenty of room to increase the intensity of the shaking (up to ten, which may be a bed ejector!) He says it is the only reason he has been able to get up for this class. The other advantage is that he does not have to use the sound and does not wake up his roommate or the rest of the dorm by having a loud alarm clock. A co-worker of mine bought one and loves it. I highly recommend this alarm clock (he has signed up for later classes the next semester but he will still need the clock!) We did buy the extension cord for the bed shaker, but he was able to put the clock far enough away from the bed without it so we have not used it. (p.s. it probably helped that he really liked the 8 am class and wanted to get there, but he still would not have woken up without this clock.)
