The clock is an actual real working clock- you can add a battery and set it to run. Since Big Ben is the main architectural landmark for the city of London, this piece gives instant recognition that the village you are creating is London in Victorian times. Being retired, it is going to become increasingly harder to find, so this is a piece that should be snapped up while there are still some available.

Big Ben was introduced in December 1998 and retired in December 2003. The U.S. retail price was $95.00. It's a stately and large piece; its dimensions are 10.25 x 4.5 x 14.25'' The photo is from the Dept 56 web site. The clock on the tower is a working clock; it runs on a watch battery.
