(More customer reviews)I was hoping to really like this boombox. I love the classic 80's look but this box has some serious missing features and flaws.
Hits
* Though it has an "old school" analog tuner - FM Radio has very good sensitivity and you can record from FM to Mp3 on a SD card or a flashdrive. Though it only records at 128 kbps the Mp3's don't sound bad.
* Unlike the Lasonic Ipod boomboxes, this has a nice big holding area for all kinds of Ipods and Iphones.
* Surprise - it can handle deep bass and get really loud for dance, rock and hip-hop, though I wouldn't push it.
* Built out of thick plastic and not as trashy looking as the Lasonic boomboxes.
Misses
* It has NO EQ or bass/treble controls, so you'll have to adjust your Ipod or Mp3 player's EQ for something that sounds good.
* Mp3 and Ipod controls are very basic, and there's no buttons to select directories.
* Phony tweeters
* No headphone or output jacks
* FM antenna is way too short, they should have used a longer one for better reception.
* There's no way to delete songs or Mp3's recorded from FM radio from the SD card or flashdrive. You'll have to use a computer to do that.
* Clock is just that - a cheap clock. There's no alarm or any way to set it up to record FM at a certian time.
* AM radio stinks. Most digital tuner chips in today's radios have a 5K rolloff which muffles any high frequencies, making any AM music station sound like it's over a phoneline.
* You cant record the from the AM radio or line input to Mp3.
* Needs 8 D batteries, and 2 AAA batteries for the clock.
If you need something to play your Mp3's or Ipod at the beach or pool at a loud volume its a decent choice. Still compared to what we had in the good old 80's it's still an toy. If you want a REAL boombox get one from the early-mid 80's and leave this on the shelf.
