dAmesbury I Mantel Clock Review

Two things caught my eye about this clock: its design and the Bulova name. The clock was a huge disappointment from the moment it came out of the box. First, it is entirely made of plastic and looks it. The carriage handle, which is one of the best design features, will not remain upright. I had to rig it with dental floss wound tightly around the handle to hold it in place. Setting the time is difficult as is getting the chime coordinated with the auto night shut-off feature. The first night I had it, the night shut-off worked, but the next night it was chiming away at 10 PM...11 PM, etc. There is no volume control for the chime, and the chime itself sounds like those cheap wireless doorbell systems. I figured out that by removing one of the 4 AA batteries the chime could be disabled yet the clock would continue to run. The rotating pendulum is loud and can be heard in a quiet room--definitely not a clock for the bedroom! Should have purchased the Seth Thomas instead.
