(More customer reviews)I don't know what waked up the two grouchy reviewers here, but I woke up to a nice calming bell. I'm clearer when I start the day gently.
I have had three Zen Alarm Clocks for at least a dozen years, and I can not imagine waking up another way, except when I am naturally done sleeping.
I have the travel clock, too. The clocks eventually wear out, yes. They're not Rolexes. But I've gotten years of use before that happened. I have had no problems. Maybe I'll even get their doorbell and phone ringer -- it would probably bring another level of serenity.
That calming bell changes the whole atmosphere. This product is lovely. I've given a couple as gifts over the years, and my friends have been happy too.
I know no better way to start my days in such a kind, gentle way!

(More customer reviews)I bought one of these a couple years ago. It quit working after a few months. I mailed it back (at my expense) for a replacement. The replacement quit working after about 8 months. I mailed it back for another replacement. This third clock quit working after about 14 months, two months past the warranty. The company refused to replace it, and was quite rude about it. I can't believe they can get away with this level of unreliability for a $140 dollar alarm clock. The previous listing for these clocks had dozens of complaints about the clocks breaking. For some reason, Amazon allowed the company to simply reset their entries for these clocks, and start over with all the fake reviews seen here. (If it wasn't obvious from reading the reviews that they're fake, check out the way each new "reviewer" goes through and recommends every other positive review, and dis-recommends every negative one. Or, witness the fact that none of the positive reviewers have ever reviewed any other product. Amazon, will you get on this? This company is a scam.)

(More customer reviews)I really wanted to like this chime clock. I don't like waking up to blaring sirens or radios. This offered a quiet progression of real chimes to wake me up.
First, the chimes are relatively quiet, so while they wake me up, they don't wake up my boyfriend. You could consider this a good or bad thing :) If he had bought it for him, he'd be pretty annoyed. As it is, it works out well.
The chimes aren't "gentle" though. They are sort of harsh sounding. I'd much rather have wood-on-metal - with the current setup there is a sharp tone to them.
The clock is able to run on batteries of power - but they don't supply a power unit so unless you find one that matches, you are stuck with batteries. With batteries, the clock only lights up (so you can see the numbers) if you press a button. The unit is so light that you really have to grab it to push that button in - which makes it start chiming. It's really a pain to look over, not know what time it is and have to grab it and make noise to find out.
A similar problem happens when you want to shut off the chime. The button for snooze is equally as hard to press in. To actually turn it off, you have to slide a lever - however, the far left position is "ON" (as in always chiming). So it's very easy when trying to slide it from alarm to OFF in a leftward direction (while sleepy) to set the darn things on permanent chime.
There are several other units for slightly more money that don't have these issues, so I suggest you look at those in comparison.

Salubrion Enso Pearl Review

(More customer reviews)I use this timer for my personal or group Zen meditation. It is adequate for the task. However, at just shy of $100 I might expect a bit more. Pluses: Nice sounds with good volume control, chosen ring sounds twice at end of last interval, attractive "enso" brush stroke circle that is less intrusive than a clock face, three programmable time setting buttons, carrying case, generally light weight and easy to take with you, seems sturdy. Minuses: Programming requires somewhat of a learning curve, sounds only at end of an interval, only one kind of sound permitted at a time. The latter two points mean, for example, that you can not begin with a get ready clapper sound such as zendos use, followed by a bell or ringing bowl to begin actual meditation. Minor point--on timer, to get rid of stopwatch numbers and have only the circle you need to press an extra button once the timer gets going rather than before the timing begins.
