12c Coffeemaker-Stainless Stee Review

I have never been one to spend a lot of money on coffeemakers in the past but I thought I would spend a little more this time and see if I could find a better quality one. I have not been disappointed. The FTXSS43 does a very good job of making a fine cup of coffee. The features I like best are the beep alert to let you know when the coffee is ready (which has a switch to turn it off if you don't want to hear it), the improved spout that doesn't drip when you pour a cup, the timer to start the coffeemaker automatically in the morning, the adjustable heat control for the warming plate, the LCD analog clock which puts out a pleasant glow and acts as a nightlight in the kitchen at night, the fact that the clock automatically turns into a timer to let you know how long the coffee has been made, and the most important, the good tasting coffee. The pot takes what I would call an average amount of time to brew and the stainless steel exterior is attractive and very easy to clean.

Hamilton Beach 10-Cup Brewstation - 47374 Review

Hamilton Beach 10-Cup Brewstation - 47374

After about 3 months the switch started clicking inside when it wasn't in use. At first I thought nothing of it. Then I started noticing it was hot when I went to make a pot of coffee even though I hadn't been home all day. As time has passed (over the course of the last month) the heat (when off) has been rising. This is ironic since it wouldn't make a "HOT" cup of coffee in the first place.
I've been unplugging it recently when I'm not using it to be safe while waiting for my new one to arrive (definitely not made by HB) and in the past week I've forgotten to unplug it twice. I've come home to open it to STEAM and IMMENSE heat to the tune of the used filter being black at the top from being cooked. I would definitely stay away from this lest you want a fire to erupt. Today marks the last pot of coffee I'll have from this coffee maker.

Saeco Easy Fill 10-Cup Automatic Drip Coffee Maker with Thermal Carafe, Stainless Steel Review

Saeco Easy Fill 10-Cup Automatic Drip Coffee Maker with Thermal Carafe, Stainless Steel
Average Reviews:

I really wanted to like this coffee maker. We've tried several and thought this one was the answer but unfortunately, we need to keep looking.
The problems are:
1. Coffee produced is not that hot. I expected more, especially with a pre-heated carafe.
2. As someone else noted, the carafe will pour even in the "closed" position. This indicates an air leak-- something that will chill the coffee much more quickly.
3. Pour spout is not good and a lip overhang means that the last drop is virtually impossible to get out.
4. The indicator for the timer is very hard to see.
5. The water holder, while convenient to remove, is very hard to level. And, there is a hole in the tank to prevent over filling. Unfortunately, it means clean up of spilled water.
6. The handle was crooked (not a major issue but annoying to look at on a $129 coffee maker).
Made good coffee, especially in small batches, but lots of machines will do that. Shame it had too many flaws to overcome.

The Easy Fill drip coffee machines from Saeco have been designed with a traditional shape, but unconventional features and advantages. The fully brushed stainless steel housing highlights the sleek and modern shape of the machine. With full front access there is no need to pull the machine out from under the cabinet. All features, including the water tank and filter basket, are full accessible from the front of the machine. The water tank, filter basket and gold tone filter are housed together in one full removable drawer. Black & Decker SDC740B SpaceMaker 12-Cup Coffeemaker, Black Review

Black and Decker SDC740B SpaceMaker 12-Cup Coffeemaker, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had a few different black and decker under cabinet coffee pots over the years and they were overdue for an update on the overall look of the product. I give the basic design 5 stars in that, the look is more current and if you have had the older version, you do get more noticable increase of counter usability space with this model. On the other hand, there are some annoyances with this new version. (I'm keeping the coffee maker)
For the overall rating that I provided of 3 stars, here is why.
Installation Template... JOKE
Missing measurement legends so was not usable. I held the coffer maker up to the cabinet to determine where I wanted it to be installed, measured from a few places on the coffee pot and cabinet and used the hanging bracket of the coffee maker as the template (pencil through screw holes).
Installation Hardware... screws wrong size
This is a design problem in concept, while having a bag of a bunch of different sizes solves the problem, or in my case, a hacksaw solved the problem. The ultimate reason is that there is no gap between the end of the screw when installed and the coffee pot to slide on. In older models if the screw went into the nut and came out the otherside by a 1/4 of an inch it was fine. In this model the screw must not go much past being flush to the end of the nut.... which is nuts!
Water Reservior... nice idea, but has challenges
a) Since the reservoir has such a large surface area, providing an exact amount of water is not easy. When you set it on the counter and fill it, it doesn't sit flat, etc, etc.
b) The top of the reservior is removable in order to clean it out. When you have the water around 10 cups, or more likely 12 cups, this lid doesn't seal the water in very good for a short walk from the sink to the coffee maker. Not a big deal, not a lot of dripping, but you have to pay attention to it.
Sneak a cup... Twice now we have had coffee overflow out of the filter area. This was due to the sneak a cup braket not designed very well. When you put the coffee pot into the unit, it pushes on a little handle/arm... barely. This braket opens/closes a door on the bottom of the filter. If the coffee pot is slightly off being place in properly, plan on a nice clean up of coffee on the counter. I added a little bit of bulk to the face of the bracket and I think it will solve the problem.
Removing top bracket... Geez, one of the first steps in the installation is to remove the top mounting bracket/piece from the top of the coffee maker... OMG, my wife and I were playing tug-a-war to get that dumb thing off. This should NOT come pre-connected to the coffee maker.
Handling of Water reservior and Filter. Neither have a nice handle or way to grip them. The filter part is more awkward to hold than the resourvoir, but it should be looked at.
I know I listed several things, but from the things listed, I don't think they are show-stoppers, I'll be keeping the coffee maker.

Coffee lovers no longer have to give up valuable counter space to accommodate a clunky coffeemaker. This unit easily installs under a cabinet, keeping work surfaces clear for food prep and other everyday tasks. More than just a space-saving convenience, the coffeemaker comes with an array of user-friendly features for brewing up to 12 cups of great-tasting coffee. Its clock and timer allow for programming the unit to begin brewing at a later time--great for wake-up coffee in the morning or having a pot ready to serve with dessert without having to get up from the table half way through dinner. For those eager for that first sip, the unit's Sneak-A-Cup interrupt function pauses the brewing cycle to allow for pouring a quick cup midbrew. Coffee brews directly into the unit's Perfect Pour glass carafe, which provides a generous stay-cool handle and a drip-free spout. Other highlights include a removable filter basket, a removable water reservoir with an illuminated water-level indicator window, a nonstick heating plate, cord storage, and automatic shut-off for peace of mind. At least two of the mounting holes are the same as the original (ODC) coffeemaker to facilitate simple upgrades, and its Save-a-Plug outlet makes it possible to connect a SpaceMaker Mini Food Processor/Grinder or Can Opener directly into the coffeemaker, saving the wall outlet for other uses. The coffeemaker measures approximately 12-3/5 by 12 by 15-1/2 inches.

I just bought this coffeemaker to replace an older model of a similar type by Mr. Coffee. The older model stopped working after only a year and I cannot find the box with the receipt to have it replaced (my son-in-law put it away somewhere??). So far this newer model makes an excellent pot of coffee and the strength of the coffee is superb and it comes out very hot!! - so there is no waste using too much coffee to get the right strength. The carafe does steam up while brewing, but does not seem to effect the process at all. I find it slightly difficult to pour all the clean water from the carafe into the top back of the machine, maybe because of the height of the machine. I love the beautiful blue brewing light that comes on when I press the start button. I also love the clock that lights up and it's very easy for me to read the time and to set the time. If there is a power outage and the power is turned back on within 10 seconds, the settings are still in place. It also beeps right before it stops brewing and turns off automatically after 2 hours. I've not had it long enough to rate its' durability, but I am saving the receipt taped to the box and will keep it under my bed in case it needs replacing. I have heard that Sunbeam/Mr. Coffee will replace any defective machine with its one-year warranty. It's a beautiful machine and so far, I love it.

I purchased this coffee maker at the recommendation of a friend and I'm really happy with it so far. It has a selectable brew strength, a defeatable audio alarm that beeps when brewing is complete, a clock, and a delayed brew timer.
The delayed brew timer is nice to have if you want to wake up in the morning with a pot of coffee waiting for you. I've used the feature a few times, and I like having it, although most of the time I grind my own beans, so I don't like to let the grounds sit in the coffee machine overnight because they can get stale. Of course, that's unavoidable unless you spend the extra money on a machine that also grinds beans before brewing.
This coffee machine comes with a permanent, washable coffee filter that is sturdy, well-made, and washes out in the sink in a matter of seconds. It also comes with a charcoal water filter that is placed above the brew basket. The manual states that these should be changed every month (I wouldn't be surprised if they last longer than that, though). The replacement filters are inexpensive, but if you already have filtered water, you can leave it out.
Another feature that I really appreciate is the Fresh Brew timer, which allows you to see exactly how long that pot of coffee has been sitting there. If you're in a hurry, you can also pull the carafe out while the coffee is brewing to pour a cup. Once you put the carafe back in its spot, it continues normally. I've tried it a few times, and not a single drop has ever hit the hot plate. Oh, and the temperature of the hot plate is adjustable -- I got mine set at the perfect temperature so it doesn't burn the coffee if it's sitting there for a while.
My only complaints (and believe me, I'm trying pretty hard to come up with them): the display, while attractive, is a little on the bright side -- a switch to adjust the brightness would be nice, even if it was just a High/Low 2-way switch. An internal battery to keep the clock accurate in case of a power outage would have been a bonus too. Finally, even though it looks great and feels pretty strong, it's almost entirely plastic, so it doesn't have that solid "I'm going to outlast your children" feel to it that it might have if it had more metal in the construction.
All in all, I feel like I'm cheating it by giving it only four stars, but it's not quite 5 stars either. It would be a 4.5 for me if I could do that. :)

Mr. Coffee FTX41 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Stainless Steel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
You would think by now the Mr. Coffee folks would know how to make a coffee maker, but this one was apparently designed by people who have never brewed a cup of coffee in their lives.
If the carafe isn't in just the right position, you wake up to a puddle of coffee on yourr counter and floor. Unfortunately, I cannot tell what the right position is--it just overflows randomly.
As if that wasn't bad enough, the clock display is right above the carafe. As the coffee brews, the steam infiltrates the clock and fills it full of condensation, making it very difficult to read. After a few months of this, the clock quits working altogether and you cannot set a delayed brew. You read correctly: this coffeemaker kills it's own clock!
I will NEVER buy a Mr. Coffee product again.

Black & Decker SDC750 Spacemaker 12-Cup Programmable Under-the-Cabinet Coffeemaker, White Review

Black and Decker SDC750 Spacemaker 12-Cup Programmable Under-the-Cabinet Coffeemaker, White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We have owned five Black & Decker Spacemaker coffee makers from three different generations of the line over the past five years. Aside from the fact that they tend to burn out after about 10-14 months (In case anyone over there is listening, I for one would pay more for a more durable unit), we have been VERY pleased with them.
Not so this time. We purchased this product about two months ago to replace our most recently burnt out Spacemaker coffeemaker. Here are our gripes:
1) Water cannister not sealed and virtually impossible to carry from sink without sloshing water all over the kitchen floor and counter. We tried unsuccessfully to remedy this situation by sealing it with caulk. I've had to resort to not filling it as full as it otherwise might be, and just carrying it VERY SLOWLY and CAREFULLY.
2) Not infrequently (for example, twice in just the past week for us), the valve from the filter holder to the pot remains closed so that it overflows when brewing a pot, flooding the counter with coffee and grounds. This appears to happen even when the carafe is properly in place. What a mess.
3) Removing the coffee filter holder to make a new pot is likewise nearly impossible to do without spilling condensed water all over the counter including whatever happens to be sitting under the pot at any given time - (keep papers and books far clear of this space if you buy this unit...) The only fix for this I have discovered is to remove the filter holder and the carafe simultaneously and carry them to the sink together in their original configuration. Again, a marked step backwards from previous Spacemaker designs.
We love the concept of the Spacemaker and love the appearance. Although I would not endorse this particular model, hopefully the next one will correct these defects.

Black and Decker SDC850 SpaceMaker 8-Cup Coffeemaker with Thermal Carafe
Average Reviews:

I pre ordered one of the SDC850's a month ago and it showed up yesterday. Nice looking unit, but pretty por performance.
Mounting "Simply grasp the top panel and pull it off" I'm 6ft 185 lbs and couldn't get the top panel to slide off, maybe some C4 would help? No problem, it can be mounted in one piece.
The template doesn't have the measurements that the directions say it does. OK, figure that out and drill the holes.
Using the spacers required for my cabinets I find that the only screws that will work are the longest ones - which are so long that they bottom out in the front right hole. Out to the garage to cut the screw shorter.
Next I attempt to pull out the filter basket - won't come out. I pull on it hard enough to start flexing the entire coffee maker and it comes free. Turns out that the hole in the filter basket that engauges the retaining pin has a plastic "turd" still on it. Trim that off and it works well.
All mounted up, give the coffee maker a try. It brews a good cup of coffee. However, it doesn't seem possible to pour that cup of coffee without getting some all over the counter.
EDIT: It appears that my caraffe is defective, which is the reason for the inability to pour cleanly. The coffee leaks between where the stainless bottom and plastic top are glued together. I'll be contacting B&D warranty for a replacement.
UPDATE #2: Got ahold of B&D warranty and it appears that they have no parts or even any full units in stock. New pot is on order for me with no ETA.
Update #3: It's now April 3rd and Black and Decker still does not have any replacement caraffes to send. I should have returned the whole thing immediately.
Update #4: May 5th and still no caraffe. B&D's warranty service is unimpressive to say the least.
Final Update: May 15th finally received a complete replacement unit from B&D. Thankfully this one doesn't leak.

My bride and I have owned probably a half-dozen or so coffeemakers during out 15-year marriage. We both love coffee in the morning, and we like to have it piping hot and ready when we rise. We've had some very good coffeemakers and owned a variety of brands and models. But all but two had one major Achilles' heel - a glass carafe. However hard we might try, those glass carafes always got broken. And when they got broken, the unanimous refrain from stores and manufacturers was: "Sorry, we don't offer that version anymore." So, it was a new coffeemaker or nothing.
We also owned one of those fancy units with an insulated carafe. Well, at least for the unit we bought, that cuts two ways. Yes, the coffee inside is insulated from the frigid winds of our kitchen. It is also effectively insulated from a warmer (which the unit did not have or, obviously, need). Now I can tell you that, with the possible exception of the most secret research bowels of NASA, there is no insulated carafe in the universe that is as effective as a warmer unless one consumes one's coffee very quickly.
Not only does this unit make great coffee, there is no carafe to break!! Or wash!! Thank you, thank you, thank you Hamilton Beach. We love it.
One caveat: when the user's manual tells you to regularly descale the unit, do so. Else the machine will get sulky and simply refuse to brew your coffee. It's probably unionized, who knows, but it does effectively sit down on the job. Now the manual has been fine tuned by an attorney and recommends descaling monthly. Given the levels of dissolved mineral in our water, we descale once every six months and all is fine.

Called the BrewStation because there is no "pot" involved, this 12-cup automatic drip coffeemaker features a thermal-lined insulated coffee tank that maintains the brew temperature and keeps coffee hot and fresh inside until it's ready to be served. Simply depress the trigger with virtually any size mug for one-hand dispensing--no carafe means no pouring, no spills, and no hotplate that can sometimes scorch coffee or make it bitter. The machine can be programmed for "wake-up" coffee with effortless push-button convenience, and its two-hour auto shut-off provides peace of mind. In addition, mid-brew dispensing makes the appliance handy for anybody in a hurry. Other highlights include a large digital clock/timer with backlighting, a removable water tank for simple filling, a helpful drip tray, and easy-to-view water levels with measurement markings. Housed in sleek black plastic with stainless-steel accents, the 975-watt coffeemaker measures 6 by 8 by 17 inches and carries a one-year warranty.

this was a gift for my husband, we've had it for about 2 weeks. he tends to nurse a pot of coffee over several hours, so we thought this would be better than the conventional coffee makers. it doesn't have a warming plate, so we don't have to worry about leaving it "on" accidentally. the coffee doesn't burn after sitting there for a couple of hours. it also has a water filter insert. my husband is overjoyed, he has his hot coffee when he wants it and says it tastes better than our old coffee maker coffee. he loves the programmable coffee brewing feature as well.

I bought one of these a few months back as I need all the counter space I can get. It is perfect for my kitchen and I love the space I got. It makes a quick pot of coffee and the temp is just right.
I think the only couple downsides I see are that the place where you pour the water is a small hole, easy to miss. Also, for some reason, the clock is screwy. It is slow and it looses about an hour every day. Finally, the pot on mine broke after only a month and I cannot find a replacement for it.
