Melnor 3060 6-Cycle Electronic AquaTimer Digital Dual Hose Timer Review

Melnor 3060 6-Cycle Electronic AquaTimer Digital Dual Hose Timer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this timer over others, the day before yesterday because of its ability to water on odd days. However, I have it attached below my south facing house wall faucet which is in direct sunlight for the majority of the day. I discovered the first day that the display became jumbled and the controls became inoperative when the unit had been in the sun for a modest period of time. Today, the unit was completely inoperative and required that I cool it down with hose water before it "came back on line." Worse, it had lost its time even though it didn't loose either program I'd stored. So, even if it did come to function again over night, it wouldn't know what time it really was! The manual gives no indication that the unit will not operate reliably at high temperatures although it does say it'll fracture if frozen. The manual lists no placement restrictions or options to avoid unit malfunction at higher temperatures.

La Crosse Technology Weather Direct WD-3105U 4-Day Internet-Powered Wireless Forecaster, Titanium Review

La Crosse Technology Weather Direct WD-3105U 4-Day Internet-Powered Wireless Forecaster, Titanium
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The weather direct weather station was easy to set up, the instuctions were easy to follow. If I could change one thing about the weather station it would be how it displays the outdoor temperature. The outdoor temperature scrolls on the bottom of the screen, along with a written description of the weather report, and the name of the city the forcast is for. I don't like that you have to wait for the outdoor temperature to show up. I would rather it was available on the display all of the time. So far, the weather reports have been quite accurate. Some of the "expandable" features that it lists in the product description are available only if you pay for a subscription. For example, you have to pay if you want to view forcasts for more than one location or want severe weather alerts. If you are only wanting to see the forecast for one location its not a problem. Overall, I'm very pleased with the product.
Edit: I'm not so pleased with this product anymore. It quit working after about 6 weeks and I haven't been able to get it working again. It turned out to be a waste of time and money.

With this La Crosse Technology internet-powered wireless forecaster, one can check the projected weather without flipping on the TV, radio, or computer. The Weather Direct WD-3102U four-day forecaster sends free internet forecasts for the user-selected location to the display unit. A provided AC-powered gateway connects with a secure LAN cable to a network router for internet transmissions, whether or not the computer is on. Upon online registration, the user chooses the forecast location from over 60,000 US and Canadian locations. The forecaster also provides the outdoor temperature, measured from right outside the front door with the included TX-50U wireless sensor.
The titanium-framed display stands alone, or wall hangs. The current day’s forecast, internet-set time, and indoor temperature occupy the top LCD. In the center section, sky condition icons and projected high and low temperatures predict the next three days’ weather; forecasts update every six hours. The selected location, location forecast, sunrise/sunset times, and outdoor temperature scroll across the bottom LCD section. Additional function keys enable adjustments to LCD contrast, scrolling speed, and volume, Fahrenheit/Celsius selection, alarm setting, five-minute snooze activation, and viewing micro forecasts for morning, afternoon, evening, and night. Communicating with the display from up to 330 feet unobstructed, both the gateway and the outdoor sensor come with mounting hardware. Install the sensor out of direct rain and sunlight. No additional software or Wi-Fi connection is required. However, the system does necessitate high-speed internet service, a network router, and the separate purchase of two C and two AA batteries. A limited one-year warranty covers the forecaster. The display measures 4-4/5 inches wide by 1-1/2 inches deep by 5-1/5 inches high.

Mr. Coffee FTX41 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Stainless Steel Review

Mr. Coffee FTX41 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Stainless Steel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
You would think by now the Mr. Coffee folks would know how to make a coffee maker, but this one was apparently designed by people who have never brewed a cup of coffee in their lives.
If the carafe isn't in just the right position, you wake up to a puddle of coffee on yourr counter and floor. Unfortunately, I cannot tell what the right position is--it just overflows randomly.
As if that wasn't bad enough, the clock display is right above the carafe. As the coffee brews, the steam infiltrates the clock and fills it full of condensation, making it very difficult to read. After a few months of this, the clock quits working altogether and you cannot set a delayed brew. You read correctly: this coffeemaker kills it's own clock!
I will NEVER buy a Mr. Coffee product again.

As said numerous times...forecasts are not even close; can not monitor outdoor temperature without pressing "snooze" button (which can not be done unless holding the unit with another hand); online monitoring of home temperature is non-existant; will not answer customer service email. An expensive exercise in futility...

La Crosse Technology WS-9004U Wireless Rain Center with Self-Emptying Rain Bucket Review

La Crosse Technology WS-9004U Wireless Rain Center with Self-Emptying Rain Bucket
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This device has some very serious disadvantages.
1. The instructions are very poor.
2. The outdoor gauge and the indoor indicator must be fairly close together. In my case I had to put them about 20 feet apart with direct line-of-sight going through a thermo-paned window.
3. In order to get the indoor and outdoor units to communicate, you have to have the two units within about 5 feet of each other while you install the batteries in the indoor unit.
4. The ability to reset readings to zero are "clunky." In order to reset the 24-hour reading, you must remove the batteries for two minutes. Then you have to go through the process of getting the outdoor and indoor units communicating again. (See No. 3, above) Additionally, resetting the 24-hour reading also resets the total accumulated reading to zero.
5. While the description says batteries last 36 months, I have had to replace mine every three months. Replacing the batteries in the outside unit is not easy, and the clips on the battery case broke on the third time I replaced them. It took some drilling and screwing to jury rig a repair. Moreover, replacing the batteries requires going through the process of establishing communication between the two units again (see No. 3 above).
6. The limit for the 24-hour reading is 10 inches. This may not be a problem in most places; however, in Florida it is a problem. When the 24-hour reading goes over 10, the indicator shows "OFL", which apparently means "overflow." In order to get it working again, you must remove the batteries in the indoor unit - which resets everything and requires re-establishing communication again (see No. 3 above).
I'd suggest trying a different brand.

Keep an eye on rain conditions with this wireless rain center. From La Crosse Technology, the rain center comprises of a self-emptying TX24U-IT rain bucket sensor and an indoor LCD receiver for wall-mounting or tabletop display. The sensor measures the total rainfall with a range of 0 to 199.99 inches, rainfall for the past 24 hours, and the heaviness of current rainfall. To prevent water from overflowing, the rain bucket self-empties with its internal system of tilting cups. From up to 330 feet, the sensor transmits data every six seconds at a 915 MHz frequency to the receiver. The receiver relays the total and 24-hour rainfall in inches to a hundredth of an inch, and features graphic indicators for current rain conditions. If more than ten counts (0.2-inch readings) of rainfall have been reported in the past 10 minutes, the heavy rainfall indicator appears; this graphic indicator’s animated rain distinguishes it from the light rainfall indicator. The rain gauge also offers a rainfall alarm over a 24-hour period that beeps when a user-determined amount, from .05 to 4 inches of rain, has been reached. With the two-button interface, the user sets the alarm and resets the total rainfall. Unless the user resets the system, the receiver doesn’t reset the 24-hour rainfall to 0.00, instead updating the value hourly. The 24-hour rainfall reads 0.00 when no rain has fallen for 24 hours. For the most accurate measurements, mount the rain bucket sensor in a secure, flat location without overhead obstructions. The rain center requires the separate purchase of 4 AAA alkaline batteries. A limited one-year manufacturer’s warranty covers this item. The receiver measures 2-1/2 inches wide by 1 inch deep by 3-5/6 inches high, while the rain bucket measures 5-2/3 inches wide by 2-1/5 inches deep by 3-1/2 inches high.

This does exactly what we want it to do. Super easy to set up and accurate in its reading. We didn't need all of the extra information the other models offered. This is actually the second one we bought. I accidentally dropped the Indoor reader on the ground and the face cracked. After a week, we realized we REALLY missed it and ordered a new one.

Chaney Instrument Wireless Weather Thermometer Review

I have had two of these products for about 5 years. They are accurate and reliable. I have only minor criticism; the battery compartment of the indoor unit is difficult to open. One reviewer wished for a clock; it has one, although I wish it didn't. Why should a thermometer have a clock and an alarm?? One reviewer complained about low temperature operation; specs say it will read as low as 14 degrees and manual says the outside unit should have lithium batteries (which function at low temperatures). My product will monitor more than one outside transmitter; mine does two. I am very pleased with my products.

This is a product that shouldn't be sold in this country. It was gifted from a friend but it does not work. I opened the case and found that the PC board is installed poorly. Specifically, the swinging arm is not moving without touching the case. I spent 15 minutes to look for a repair, but it seems no help.
If you're thinking to buy, good luck. It is poorly engineered and would not recommend for gift at all.

Westclox Odessey Clock 22700

Pretty straight forward clock, but I must say it was a little bigger than I expected. It's going to be great when I lose my sight/hearing because the numbers are enormous and the alarm is super loud - even on the "low" setting it's a screamer. Fine with me, I'm getting used to it, but it was certainly a shock the first time. It has dual alarms, which is why I ordered it, and a super simple setup which is what I wanted. Minimal things to do on the interface, yay. I hate alarms that require reading the directions or have tiny little buttons all over them. This is a simple, utilitarian clock.

GPX CRCD-2806 Clock Radio and CD Player with AM/FM Radio and Alarm Review

GPX CRCD-2806 Clock Radio and CD Player with AM/FM Radio and Alarm
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
(I'm not a kid! Don't tell anyone)
There were absolutely no reviews anywhere when I bought this item, so it was a bit of a gamble, though for $[...] you can't go wrong. I'm still amazed by that price. I've only had it for a day so I'll write this review under the assumption that the device doesn't break down tomorrow.
The radio is circular in shape and a bit bulky. If you tuck it in under a shelf it looks great, otherwise it looks a bit old fashioned. It's basically a small stereo.
This will play burned CD's. The audio is nice and clear, though slightly muted. But I doubt you'll be critical about that in your groggy early morning state. If you turn the volume up, it's perfect. There is only a very faint whir of the CD player, it's not distracting and you can't hear it at all over the music.
This device allows you to wake up to a buzzer, the radio (which is clear), or a CD. It's very simple to set. You cannot choose which track on the CD plays, unfortunately. It automatically plays track 1. There is a "Random" button and a "skip" button if you decide you want to lay back down and wake up to a different song. There is also no headphone jack. Those are probably the only two features that this device lacks. I can live without them. This is only for waking up to CD's and listening to the radio. If I want to listen to music during the day, I have my laptop.
Assuming that it doesn't break down over time, this is a great product.

I like the way this unit gathers all the information from the internet without needing your computer running. All the important information is there. However the presentation is poor. The three day advance weather forecast is displayed in the middle, therefore there is no need to have it scroll across the bottom which is hard to read. It comes with an outside temp probe but you can not display the outside temp easily, you have to wait till it scrolls across the bottom. The daily forecast is broken up in AM PM Evening etc. However it would be nice if it changed with current time of day, but it doesn't you have to cycle through it manually. Too much scrolling and not a constant display of current conditions. It's a shame, it has all the information you would want, but just does a poor job of displaying it. I returned it.

Need a quick, easy way to determine both the time and the morning temperature with a single glance? Check out the Timex TX5040 electronic thermometer, a versatile desktop model that simultaneously displays the indoor temperature, outdoor temperature, and current time in big, bold numbers. The compact unit--which also mounts on a wall or sits unobtrusively on a tabletop or shelf--offers an indoor temperature range of 32 to 104 degrees F (0 to 40 degrees C) and an outdoor range of -58 to 158 degrees F (-50 to 70 degrees C). As a result, you can instantly gauge whether to bring the plants inside during a cold spell, turn up the heat in the living room, or put on a jacket before taking a stroll. At the same time, the TX5040 includes an integral minimum/maximum memory function that records the high and low temperatures of the day. The values are available at the push of a button, with a second button clearing and resetting the memory on command.
The thermometer is remarkably easy to read--even from across the room--thanks to the three-line LCD panel, which features pronounced digits that measure 0.34 inches tall. The time digits, meanwhile, check in at 1/4 inches each. Best of all, all three lines--one each for the indoor temperature, outdoor temperature, and time--are stacked in a logical fashion, so you don't need to press any buttons or switch screens to check the latest info. Users do, however, have their choice of multiple formats for each line, including Celsius or Fahrenheit readings for the temperature and 12-hour (with AM and PM) or 24-hour readings for the time. The selections are made via the five silver control buttons on the front.
The TX5040 comes with a wired, weather-resistant temperature probe (with a 10-foot cord) for gauging the outdoor temperature, along with an integral folding stand. Because of the wired probe, the main unit will need to located near a window to enjoy the outdoor temperature functions. And should you want to mount the unit on a wall rather than place it on a shelf or desk, simply suspend it from its rear hanger hole (you'll need to provide the nail or screw). As a final bonus, the TX5040 is streamlined and attractive, with a sleek white housing and a snazzy five-button control panel on the front.
The compact unit, which is powered by a single AAA battery (not included), measures 2.5 by 3.38 by 0.75 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a one-year factory warranty.

I had submitted a review earlier (as follows). However, I've become very disappointed with the operation of this unit. Specifically, it stops showing the remote temperature FREQUENTLY. Nothing wrong with the remote. I remedy the problem by removing one battery in the main unit, then replace it and wait for it to correct itself. ** end of edit ** Original review follows and still applies. RR
I installed the unit just after the Denver Christmas 2006 blizzard. I used standard batteries in the remote but was still able to read -11 deg F. Later, the unit stopped transmitting (see other person's review). I replaced the remote batteries and it has worked fine since then. I might go with lithium batteries next time.
The real drawback, in my view, is the smooth, curved display cover. It reflects light from all directions and makes it difficult to read unless you move around or move very close. The product would be better with a flat display cover and/or an etched cover (to reduce reflection).

Monitor temperatures in up to three remote locations at once while also receiving the most accurate timekeeping available with the Honeywell TE219ELW wireless indoor/outdoor thermometer. The system comes with a compact main display unit that measures 3.33 by 6.19 by 1.11 inches (W x H x D), along with a single water-resistant remote temperature sensor (model TS13C) with an effective transmission range of roughly 100 feet. You can install the remote sensor virtually anywhere in or near the house, including in the living room, on the back patio, or in the rear greenhouse. Should you want to know the temperature in all three locations, simply purchase a couple of additional remote sensors.
The TE219ELW displays the temperature (in either C or F) and time on its blue backlit LCD screen. Users will also delight in the unit's wide outdoor temperature range--which varies from -38 to 158 degrees F when powered by lithium batteries to -4 to 158 degrees F on alkaline batteries--and its programmable ice warning alarm, which lets you know when a frost is predicted so you can take precautions.
The built-in clock, meanwhile, receives radio signals from the U.S. Atomic Clock in Fort Collins, Colorado, which adjusts the clock to within one second of official U.S. government time. Whether you're loath to be late for work or you just prefer precision in your timekeeping, the TE219ELW's clock is a perfect fit. It even automatically adjusts for Daylight Savings Time. Other clock features include 12- and 24-hour time formats, a dual-crescendo alarm with a snooze option, and a calendar with month and day readings.
The display unit, which mounts on the wall or sits on the desktop, requires two AA batteries (not included), as does each remote sensor. The system is also backed by a one-year warranty.
What's in the Box Display unit, one TS13C remote sensor, user's manual.

Travel Tranquil Moments Alarm Clock Sound Therapy Machine Review

Travel Tranquil Moments Alarm Clock Sound Therapy Machine

When it works, this noise machine/clock is pretty nice. It keeps time and has a few nice sounds to choose from. It's a little pricey at $100, but if it would continue to work, I'd be fine with it.
The problem is that we've had three of these, and every one has died after a few weeks of use!
We bought the first one at a Brookstone in Vegas. It worked for that trip, but only lasted a few days into our next trip. The display went completely out, and it wouldn't respond at all - fresh batteries didn't do anything, plugging it in didn't do anything. I returned it and got a second from the Philadelphia airport - this one lasted a few weeks and died again! We returned that one at the King of Prussia Mall (Pennsylvania), and the same exact thing happened with the replacement they gave us after a few weeks!
I'm baffled that we've gone through 3 of these things, all gotten from completely different locations, and all have died after a few short weeks of use. This really is the worst quality item I've ever had. I would think that every one of these ever purchased would be returned, based on my experience with the three that I've had. I suppose it's possible that we just received 3 bad ones, and the majority are fine, but it seems extremely unlikely. There's no other constant with it - we've used different batteries, and have used them in different locations. We've kept them in their box, and haven't been rough on them at all. It's an alarm clock with noise - it's not like it's that complex of a piece of equipment. I truly am baffled at this piece of junk.
My advice is don't even consider buying one of these. I'm sure there's plenty of other choices out there at this price point that will do the same thing but will last longer than a month.

CDN Big-Digit Digital Timer/Clock Review

CDN Big-Digit Digital Timer/Clock

I have been searching for a kitchen timer that has all these features. The feature I wanted the most was buttons for each individual number. It is very hard to find a product that has this. The individual buttons make it so much easier and faster to set. With other models, you have to hold the Hour, Minute, Second buttons down until the number you want displays. I was also looking for a timer that had a magnet on the back so I could attach it to the refrigerator at eye level. The product description does not mention the magnet for this product. But I was pleasantly surprised to see that the magnet is there as well as a stand. The time display is large and very easy to read.

Howard Miller 645-527 Tide Mate III Weather & Maritime Table Clock by Review

I have finally found a tide clock that works! I previously had purchased three beautiful brass clocks for four times the price of this one, but none of them worked. The Howard Miller clock is sharp looking and keeps the correct time. I didn't really see the "second" hand as necessary, but I have actually grown to like it since when you look at the clock you can tell easily that it is still running. The face is large enough and the large letters are easily read. I liked this clock enough that I bought two!
Make sure you realize that this tide clock (and all others that I know of) are for the East Coast only in which there are two high and two low tides per day. Other parts of the country can have very strange tides that tide clocks are not good for.

Elgin Electric LCD Projection Alarm Clock With Time Ready Technology, Black Review

Elgin Electric LCD Projection Alarm Clock With Time Ready Technology, Black

I returned this clock for 3 reasons. (1) I have 3 different atomics clocks in my house that all set the time automatically. This one did not, although the package and instructions said it would, even though they did not use the word, "atomic". (2) The only way to project the time right-side up is to put the clock at the foot of the bed. (3) The green display was too bright for me to sleep at night.
