Mr.coffee 35 Anniversary Maker Review

Mr.coffee 35 Anniversary Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Over the years, I have had Mr. Coffeemakers and have been pleased with every one. After a couple of years, they seem to have a shelf life..they up and die on you but during that couple of years..they make darn good coffee.
In the meantime, I have tried the Cuisinart top of the line, a couple of the Barista models (Starbucks) and every one of them made coffee that made me despair. It wasn't as if these two manufacturers' products did not have a shelf life, because they conked out; the reason they had no shelf life was that I threw them out, because I could not get a good cup of coffee.
Well, I am back. I just picked up my new Mr. Coffee Classic today and just tasted the coffee...hmmm good. It has all of the bells and whistles, but does not automatically grind the coffee. I did not want that feature; because none of them get the coffee the way I like it. I have a separate grinder to grind up my coffee beans now. However, Mr. Coffee does have models that grind the beans as well if you must have that feature built into your coffee maker.
This model has cord storage, ambient light, 2 to 4 hour warmer with icon, brew strength, make coffee now or delay button(s), clock, pause button, warming pad, place for cups, filter, water filter, pretty much everything all of the more expensive brands have for much, much less. And best of all, it works. You can have a great cup of coffee.
By the way, I have even purchased the most inexpensive Mr. Coffee models in the past; and even these models outclassed the coffee of the Cuisinart and Barista models I had. I honestly believe that keeping it simple works best and Mr. Coffee knows how to brew coffee. Haven't tried making cocoa yet; but think that would be dynamite.
Anyways, I am very pleased with my purchase and feel like I have come home again with a thrifty buy. Just wanted to share my experiences so that you do not pay too much for a machine which does not give you what you want: a good cup of coffee.

Cuisinart DCC-2200 Brew Central 14-Cup Coffeemaker Review

Cuisinart DCC-2200 Brew Central 14-Cup Coffeemaker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this coffee maker after too many days of being the family's late riser and finding the coffee pot already drained. I have been using this pot for a couple of months now, and I am more than pleased with my purchase. This pot does hold more than the standard 10- or 12-cup coffeemaker, a great feature in a family of coffee-drinkers.
I had hoped to find a coffee-maker with a removable water reservoir to carry back and forth to the sink, which this model does not have, but even so, I give this model five stars for the excellent coffee it makes. While I have to lift the coffee-maker down from the shelf on which I keep it in order to fill the reservoir, its internal clock remains accurate even when unplugged for the short while it takes to fill the reservoir.
Some folks here have complained about the beep signaling that the element is being turned off. Even after several cups of coffee, my nerves aren't so high-strung that I even give the sound a second thought. It's quite innocuous, IMHO.
Perhaps owing to the water filter, this pot makes excellent rich-tasting coffee. It seems to brew just long enough to make perfect coffee for most folks' tastes. For stronger coffee, I can make fewer cups and use more ground coffee. If I'm really in need of a strong cuppa, I'll simply use my French press. I have never had the ground coffee overflow the filter doing this. Also, the heating element seems set to the perfect temperature, since I have never had a cup of coffee from this pot that tasted burnt...and on a number of mornings, I have barely gotten up in time to hear the beep signaling the end of hot coffee.
Best features of this machine--absolutely drip-free pot, unrivaled pure coffee taste, large capacity pot, variable settings for when the heating element will turn off, and an internal clock that retains settings with short interruptions of power.
Improvements that could be made--I wish it had a removable reservoir, but the one pot that I have used that had that feature made the worst coffee I've ever made at home, not to mention the leaky pot.
If you're not looking for espresso, but just a clean, pure cup of good coffee...even when "Early Bird" isn't your middle name, I think you've found what you're looking for in this machine.

Krups 867-42 Il Caffe Bistro 10-Cup Coffee/4-Cup Espresso Maker Review

Krups 867-42 Il Caffe Bistro 10-Cup Coffee/4-Cup Espresso Maker
Average Reviews:

A year ago, I purchased one of these for my fiancee. My initial impression was very positive, but I didn't want to rush into writing a review without putting it through the wringer (so to speak). Well, after countless latte's the Caffe Bistro is still pumping out quality espresso and foaming great quanities of milk. It's very solid in construction and brain-dead simple to use, even without its very well written owner's manual. I do have a few comments to make, however, that might serve as minor caveats to anyone seeking to purchase a combo espresso/coffee maker:
[1] While the manual states that the handle assembly is dishwasher safe, I would strongly recommend *against* putting it in the dishwasher. I'm not sure what it is about my fiancee's dishwasher crystals, but after one go-around in the 'washer, the aluminum portion of the handle assembly turned very dark grey (almost a slate color)--completely oxidized. This doesn't affect performance in the least, but it does make the it somewhat less pretty to look at. Wash it by hand and all should go well. If you forget and find yourself with an oxidized cup, simply go at it with a brillo-type (mildly abrasive) pad and your favorite dishwashing soap (e.g. Palmolive, Ivory, etc.). After a few minutes of scrubbing, the aluminum cup will be back to its original lustre.
[2] The manual makes frequent mention of a "perfect froth attachment" but doesn't really explain what it is or what it does or why it's there. In short, it's the second little miniature stem to the side of the steam stem whose purpose is to funnel in cool air from the room via the top of the attachment via the Bernoulli effect (the same principle that perfume atomizers with the squishy rubber bulbs use), thus providing the "perfect" amount of air needed to make foam. While cleaning the frother, the little rubber tip on the top of the attachment rolled under the stove and was effectively lost. The next time I tried to froth some milk, I got a whole bunch of air and very little steam, resulting in just a rapidly moving cup of slightly warm milk (and a whole lot of noise). I figured out that if you just remove the "perfect froth" attachment, you can get "perfect froth" by simply holding the nozzle just a tiny bit above the surface of the milk--just the way one would do with a machine without such an attachment. I'm now actually glad we lost the tip of the PFA since now the steam nozzle is much easier to clean. :-)
[3] Regular cleaning of your frothing nozzle is imperative. I like to keep a straightened paper clip next to the machine to clean out the tip after every use. If you don't clean it regularly, old milk and hard water deposits will result in a partially or completely blocked nozzle. You should also use a small wrench to remove the tip of the nozzle once a month and make sure you clean it from the inside--a paper clip can only get so much.
[4] The nozzle on this unit is just a bit too long, even without the PFA in place. We purchased a stainless steel frothing pitcher from Fourbucks, er...Starbucks, and found it to be just about 1/4" too tall (or the nozzle just about 1/4" too long) to fit under without tipping either the pitcher or the machine. I'm sorry I don't have a measurement handy, but it's only a very minor annoyance, nothing worth losing sleep over.
[5] I am concerned about the use of aluminum in the unit. The grounds cup, the handle assembly and apparently the tank in which the water is heated are all made of aluminum, and aluminum is a known neurotoxin (i.e. it's bad for you) and it is thought to be a contributing factor in the contraction of Alzheimer's Disease. If I had known that the Caffe Bistro used so much aluminum in the parts that contact the water, I probably would not have purchased it, but buying an espresso machine with stainless steel parts would have been prohibitively expensive. :-(
In short, it's a great unit and has served wonderful lattes and coffees for the past year or so, and it's a great value...that is, if you don't mind ingesting material that is a known to do the body harm.

12c Coffeemaker-Stainless Stee Review

I have never been one to spend a lot of money on coffeemakers in the past but I thought I would spend a little more this time and see if I could find a better quality one. I have not been disappointed. The FTXSS43 does a very good job of making a fine cup of coffee. The features I like best are the beep alert to let you know when the coffee is ready (which has a switch to turn it off if you don't want to hear it), the improved spout that doesn't drip when you pour a cup, the timer to start the coffeemaker automatically in the morning, the adjustable heat control for the warming plate, the LCD analog clock which puts out a pleasant glow and acts as a nightlight in the kitchen at night, the fact that the clock automatically turns into a timer to let you know how long the coffee has been made, and the most important, the good tasting coffee. The pot takes what I would call an average amount of time to brew and the stainless steel exterior is attractive and very easy to clean.

DeLonghi DCR902T Retro Drip Coffee Maker with Timer Review

DeLonghi DCR902T Retro Drip Coffee Maker with Timer
Average Reviews:

Below is my ORIGINAL review...and one year later, I am adding these notes:
February 2005
As others have noted - the carafe does seem to have a "loose" seal around the rim where the plastic doesn't seal well to the glass. However, I don't notice more than a bit of leakage once in awhile...and I'm sure a little silicone could be used to repair it. It is still a very nice carafe with a great handle & hinged lid and has stood up well with lots of use.
We've also had the "flashing light" syndrome...but customer service told us how to reset...not a big deal now that we know.
Sometimes water does pool under the coffee maker - I don't really mind wiping it up when it does.
The bottom line is that I still LOVE this machine. I like the looks, the ease of use (especially the removable water basket for filling) and ease of cleaning. But most important...it makes great coffee and I haven't been sorry for a minute that I bought it. Maybe I'm just not as fussy as some...but I still recommend it highly.ORIGINAL REVIEW - January 2004
Finally decided to upgrade to a better coffee maker after years with a cheap one. Christmas seemed the perfect time to buy it for my coffee addicted husband. Read dozens of reviews. Didn't want to spend over $100. Couldn't find any reviews of this newer Delonghi maker and it was priced over my limit wherever I saw it. So, I went out and bought the Cuisinart retro maker despite a few small reservations about some features. It looked like it was almost perfect and the reviews were great. Then, the Delonghi was advertised as a sale item at a store where I had a discount coupon, and I was able to purchase it for much less than the Cuisnart. So I returned that one and risked the "unreviewed" Delonghi.
After a week of coffee making, I know I made a great choice. The first pot of coffee Christmas morning was before unwrapping. The second was with the Delonghi - same water, same coffee...but a world of difference! I wouldn't have believed it could be so much better.
The features that convinced me to buy this one over the Cuisinart were the swing out filter basket, the water level indicator and the hinged top carafe. Little things lacking on the Cuisinart that I knew were going to bug me.
The design of the Delonghi makes coffee prep a pleasure and clean up easy. Being able to remove the water reservoir for filling and cleaning is something I wouldn't have imagined as a big plus, but now I can't imagine not having this feature. I don't think we ever really cleaned the water reservoir on our old maker and I shudder to think about that...but like most makers, it is not very easy or accessible. And the Delonghi "bucket-like" reservoir lifts out and in easily and really makes a water indicator superfluous.
Programming is very simple. Setting the start time is a no-brainer. Auto light button and regular "start on demand" button are easy to use. Setting it to turn off any time after the coffee is made - from 2 to 12 hours - is equally easy to figure out. And setting 1-6 or 7-12 cups as well. Each day now starts with coffee that has been perfectly brewed at the same time each morning...just before we wake up!
Other features include a "dark" or "light" setting for coffee strength (we only use dark), a swivel control panel for easy access if your maker is in a less accessible counter place (not something we use but I imagine others might)a replaceable charcoal filter for better water taste, and a platinum fiter that fits in the basket, if you don't want to use paper filters (something else we probably won't use unless we run out of paper filters which we prefer).
The only small drawback is that the outside water level indicator is hard to read because it's so dark and the water doesn't easily show inside the tube - but since I use the removeable reservoir which is clearly marked, I don't even look at the indicator.
No problems with spilling water or coffee and the carafe is very well designed and seems quite durable and comfortable to handle.
You won't go wrong with this coffee maker. Consider it HIGHLY reviewed!

Farberware FCM12SS 12-Cup Coffeemaker, Stainless/Black Review

Farberware FCM12SS 12-Cup Coffeemaker, Stainless/Black
Average Reviews:

Like everyone else, I found the absurdly tiny opening for the water is a royal pain, & certainly drags the rating for this way down. After setting it up, impressed with the features, & price, I couldn't even see where the water should go, and looked to the instructions, which weren't much help. I finally realized, that despite a huge lid, which is only for the filter, the opening for filling was a tiny, narrow slit towards the rear of the unit. This is way too small, and not only must you be a great aim, but it's quite awkward maneuvering the carafe to enable it to fully empty!
I truly cannot believe that someone, or ones, were paid to "design" this model! What were they thinking???
Oh, well, this is the third coffeemaker I've bought recently, the first two were even even worse, so I'm still undecided if I'll return this, or just live with having to be ultra-precise when filling it.....

DeLonghi DCM485 10-Cup Thermal Carafe and Coffeemaker, Brushed Stainless Steel

Are you tired of parts made of plastic and not real metal? This coffee maker is made of genuine brushed stainless. If the part on this machine looks like metal, it is metal. The overall look and style is very European, even the buttons and display are good quality and simple to use and understand. The carafe is stainless inside and out, and keeps the coffee hot for at least 4 hours. The water resevoir lifts out for easily filling from the tap, so you don't have to fill the carafe first and pour it into the machine. The resavoir has graduated markings. Also, the filter holder comes out for easy cleaning. The only quirk I found is that, as with other themal carafes, you have to pour slowly to keep from dripping. It also helps to read the manual that explains how far to unscrew the top before pouring to avoid drips.

Krups XP2070 Programmable 10-Cup Coffeemaker/15-Bar Pump Espresso Machine Review

Krups XP2070 Programmable 10-Cup Coffeemaker/15-Bar Pump Espresso Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was and still am deeply suspicious of these combo units, but this one has been a pleasant surprise. All of the basic functions work admirably and it does a wonderful job of frothing even low fat milk. The espresso maker is a little less forgiving of your tamping skills than other machines I've used, but when you get it right the crema is beautiful.
I have only had this for 3 months, so I can't vouch for longevity of the machine, but it seems to be sturdy and well made.
The problem I have is with the computer program that operates everything. It is perhaps the most non-intuitive, least user-friendly design I have ever come across on any home appliance. The functions themselves should be fairly straightforward -- push a button -- but require you to learn the secret code of whomever designed it.
Add to that the fact that the instructions are WRONG. I can handle them being written by a non-English speaker, I'm used to that. But they can at least be accurate. Helpful tip - when frothing milk, after the steam has built up and the flashing light begins to glow continuously, DO NOT push the "steam" button again as the instructions indicate. Push the "Valid" button instead.
However, once you get the secret code down, this machine works well. Compared to other combo units I highly recommend.

Hamilton Beach 10-Cup Brewstation - 47374 Review

Hamilton Beach 10-Cup Brewstation - 47374

(More customer reviews)
After about 3 months the switch started clicking inside when it wasn't in use. At first I thought nothing of it. Then I started noticing it was hot when I went to make a pot of coffee even though I hadn't been home all day. As time has passed (over the course of the last month) the heat (when off) has been rising. This is ironic since it wouldn't make a "HOT" cup of coffee in the first place.
I've been unplugging it recently when I'm not using it to be safe while waiting for my new one to arrive (definitely not made by HB) and in the past week I've forgotten to unplug it twice. I've come home to open it to STEAM and IMMENSE heat to the tune of the used filter being black at the top from being cooked. I would definitely stay away from this lest you want a fire to erupt. Today marks the last pot of coffee I'll have from this coffee maker.

The only complaint I have is when you pour the water in or pour a cup of coffee. The pour spout is too small and you have to pour slowly!! DeLonghi ESAM5500M Perfecta Digital Super-Automatic Espresso Machine, Metallic Blue Review

DeLonghi ESAM5500M Perfecta Digital Super-Automatic Espresso Machine, Metallic Blue
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am surprised that I am the first reviewer of this great machine. I just received mine yesterday. I bought it from another vender, but since I typically do most of my shopping via Amazon I thought I would share my experience thus far. Overall, this Super-Automatic is simple to use and makes great coffee, lattes, and cappuccino's. My advice though....WATCH THE DVD BEFORE USING!!! I thought I had this thing in the bag.. how difficult could it be to use??....Well it isn't difficult to use, but there are a few things I did that had I watched the video all the way through I would not have done. For example, when setting how fine or coarse you want the beans you have to adjust the dial one notch at a time while the grinder is running (still doesn't make sense to me). I paused the video before waiting for the lady to finish talking on the topic and just moved it a few notches towards fine...oops! Oh well, doesn't seem to have adversely effected anything, but now I know. Contrary to reviews I have read of super-auto's, the burr grinder on this one is quiet when running. On a scale of 1-10 where 10 is extremely loud and 1 is basically silent I would rate this machine a 5 and my Cuisinart Grind and brew (the one that hold like a pound of beans) an 8. I was actually expecting something much louder.
Build Quality- I would have to say I am impressed with the looks of this machine and its fit and finish. I am sure some people will complain of the amount of plastic, but seeing how this thing already weighs over 20lbs. why add more weight. I thought about the Gran Dama, but honestly this machine is better.
Coffee- I was also considering the Jura Z5 because I read good things, but the price was a stretch.Granted, this machine isn't cheap either. I believe that I made the right choice. The espresso is great. I do wonder though what it tasted like from the factory, but since I changed the settings prematurely I will never know...ha! The Milk pitcher is ingenious...BRAVO! Latte's and Cappuccino's are a breeze and let me tell you this machine makes both very well. Sure a semi-auto can do better, but really I do not want to do the extra steps. As it is, Starbucks does not compare. I have read reviews that state the Gran Dama latte's can be cold. I have to admit, the first one I made was, but after I made a couple and utilized the cup warmer they were perfect. I bought the Cinnamon Dolce syrup from Starbucks and I downed to many lattes....probably explains why at 0209 EST I am still up and writing this review.
My Opinion- If you are in the market for a super-automatic I would say give this one a consideration. I bought this machine from a place that has probably the best return policy of all retailers, so if something does go wrong I will take it right back for another. Regardless, the people at Delonghi are great and I was amazed that as soon as I pushed (1) I was talking to a person almost immediately. I will probably just purchase the extended warranty from the manufacturer and extend the 2 years to 4...Extra $150. That is all for now. Look for an update in a couple months. **UPDATE** 3/24/10
Well I overworked the first one, but the place I bought it from gladly took it back and ordered me another one. I made nearly 2,000 cups of coffee in 4 months with the first one. I have made nearly 1000 with the one I have now, but it seems to be holding up fine. As far as recommending it I still would. I love this machine. It is so nice that I can make everything Starbucks does without having to pay them $4 for every cup. I have basically every syrup they have and all my guests rave about the Delonghi. It is a lot of money to spend on a coffee maker, but I would do it again.

Brew cafe-quality espresso, cappuccino, latte, and more with this super-automatic home espresso machine. The unit’s user-friendly control panel with digital programmable menu settings allows for choosing from five coffee-strength settings--extra-mild, mild, regular, strong, and extra strong, as well as the cup size, from small (ristretto) to large (American coffee). The electronic control panel also makes it easy to adjust the start time, one- to three-hour automatic shut-off, clock, temperature of the coffee, and water hardness. In addition, an integrated lower-pitch conical burr grinder offers 13 grind settings for adjusting the fineness for all types of beans, and the beans grind right before brewing to ensure consistently fresh, aromatic espresso or coffee. The unit's Direct-to-Brew System with Thermoblock technology ensures excellent heat distribution, while its 15 bars of pressure and double boiler with espresso boiler means no waiting between frothing milk and brewing espresso. Mr. Coffee 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemakers Review

Mr. Coffee 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemakers

I purchased this coffee maker at the recommendation of a friend and I'm really happy with it so far. It has a selectable brew strength, a defeatable audio alarm that beeps when brewing is complete, a clock, and a delayed brew timer.
The delayed brew timer is nice to have if you want to wake up in the morning with a pot of coffee waiting for you. I've used the feature a few times, and I like having it, although most of the time I grind my own beans, so I don't like to let the grounds sit in the coffee machine overnight because they can get stale. Of course, that's unavoidable unless you spend the extra money on a machine that also grinds beans before brewing.
This coffee machine comes with a permanent, washable coffee filter that is sturdy, well-made, and washes out in the sink in a matter of seconds. It also comes with a charcoal water filter that is placed above the brew basket. The manual states that these should be changed every month (I wouldn't be surprised if they last longer than that, though). The replacement filters are inexpensive, but if you already have filtered water, you can leave it out.
Another feature that I really appreciate is the Fresh Brew timer, which allows you to see exactly how long that pot of coffee has been sitting there. If you're in a hurry, you can also pull the carafe out while the coffee is brewing to pour a cup. Once you put the carafe back in its spot, it continues normally. I've tried it a few times, and not a single drop has ever hit the hot plate. Oh, and the temperature of the hot plate is adjustable -- I got mine set at the perfect temperature so it doesn't burn the coffee if it's sitting there for a while.
My only complaints (and believe me, I'm trying pretty hard to come up with them): the display, while attractive, is a little on the bright side -- a switch to adjust the brightness would be nice, even if it was just a High/Low 2-way switch. An internal battery to keep the clock accurate in case of a power outage would have been a bonus too. Finally, even though it looks great and feels pretty strong, it's almost entirely plastic, so it doesn't have that solid "I'm going to outlast your children" feel to it that it might have if it had more metal in the construction.
All in all, I feel like I'm cheating it by giving it only four stars, but it's not quite 5 stars either. It would be a 4.5 for me if I could do that. :)

Mr. Coffee FTX41 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Stainless Steel Review

Mr. Coffee FTX41 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Stainless Steel

You would think by now the Mr. Coffee folks would know how to make a coffee maker, but this one was apparently designed by people who have never brewed a cup of coffee in their lives.
If the carafe isn't in just the right position, you wake up to a puddle of coffee on yourr counter and floor. Unfortunately, I cannot tell what the right position is--it just overflows randomly.
As if that wasn't bad enough, the clock display is right above the carafe. As the coffee brews, the steam infiltrates the clock and fills it full of condensation, making it very difficult to read. After a few months of this, the clock quits working altogether and you cannot set a delayed brew. You read correctly: this coffeemaker kills it's own clock!
I will NEVER buy a Mr. Coffee product again.

Krups KM1010 Prelude 10-Cup Manual Coffee Maker Review

Krups KM1010 Prelude 10-Cup Manual Coffee Maker

I love Krups coffee makers - I always receive compliments that I make good coffee and I'm pretty sure it isn't my own expertise! I ordered this coffee maker because I wanted a simple on/off machine. This fits the bill, but it does have a few issues that I would redesign if possible. The whole top is the lid - unlike my previous which just a small section opened and I could leave it open under the cabinets to air out - this one doesn't fit under my cabinet with the lid open. I usually pull mine out from under the cabinet when it is brewing and then slide it back under them when finished so that the steam doesn't damage the cabinets. This one has very sticky feet that don't slide easily. Lastly, it is a bit tricky to nest the filter into position to shut the lid. I have had it over a month and still have to jiggle the filter into place to get it to fit correctly. Nice sturdy carafe.

Black& Decker DCM2500W SmartBrew 12-Cup Coffeemaker, White Review

Blackand Decker DCM2500W SmartBrew 12-Cup Coffeemaker, White

We all know the problem coffee makers. They have mysterious water leaks, they don't drip into the carafe correctly, the filter basket overflows if it isn't perfectly in place.
Black and Decker (B&D) has designed a coffee maker that is inexpensive and simply eliminates those problems...
How I know:
I got this coffee maker for the office. We brew at least three 12-cup pots a day. We've done about 100 pots WITHOUT A SPILL OR LEAK. I highly recommend this machine.
What I know:
The "Perfect Pour Carafe" is great. B&D just gave it a wider spout! What a concept! You wouldn't think a handle makes a big difference, but when you're carrying 12-cups-worth of water or coffee, you will suddenly appreciate this excellent handle. This carafe even looks nice.
The filter basket does not swing out, nor must you hold it in one hand while you add the coffee. Swing-out baskets are the ones that overflow when you don't close them perfectly, and slide-out removable baskets leave only one hand for the scooping chores. This basket can be removed to dump the old grounds, but is then replaced in the machine so both hands are free.
That is because the lid opens up to expose the filter basket and the unobstructed, large water resevoir. No careful aiming or water splashing off of useless plastic grates when filling. There is a strange looking, hinged "shower head" that delivers the hot water to the filter basket. It is simple in design and works well.
The lid closes securely and pins down the removable filter basket to further eliminate human error in basket positioning.
Even the "sneak a cup" mechanism is simple and effective. It is simply a rubber stopper on a simple lever. The carafe can be placed in a "wrong" and possibly overflow-producing position, but if you place it with the handle straight out, you can't go wrong.
Water level is indicated externally on both sides of the machine.
Auto shut-off after two hours is essential in our office. It works and the coffee is kept quite hot during that time.
Easy to clean (buttons are water/coffee proof).
