While I think this unit is a bit pricey, it is an amazing application of Galileo's principles of liquid thermometers. It is very attractive. My wife is a chemistry teacher, so she is into these kinds of things. She loves it.

As product detail, it comes with narrow range of temperatures (68F-80F). I don't know if manufacture could expand temp range in the future; like 66F-86F. So far, I love it!

(More customer reviews)Accurate Galileo thermometer in 2 degree Fahrenheit increments. But this is more useful as a conversation piece and as a teaching aid in explaining density (specific gravity) variations with temperature rather than as a thermometer. The actual thermometer looks much better than the on-line picture. I think that this product is nicer than the smaller versions that are for sale by River City and other manufacturers, and worth the extra price.
This product is fragile, and the first delivery of this product, although properly boxed and protected, did not survive UPS shipping. I had to send the broken glass leaking pieces back. Although Amazon made the return process as painless as possible, it was still inconvenient and messy. Amazon's service in getting a replacement to me was excellent.

(More customer reviews)I bought this originally thinking that it was a novelty item and looked cool. It is actually much nicer and more useful than I had hoped. We put it on our mantel and it's very cool looking and everyone always likes to ask what it is and how it works. The colors and clean lines make it nice enough that it doesn't seem like a toy. It's actually very accurate also (although by accurate it is in 4 degree increments so it's not a swiss watch) and much more interesting to look at than a digital thermometer, it also tends to catch your eye if a lot of balls are up or down - i.e. it's getting cold or hot. I was a bit worried about shipping but it arrived intact and I have since moved once and it survived the move so it's somewhat durable.
