(More customer reviews)After reading the previous reviews I had to turn my timer around to check its Cat. No. and make sure I had the same unit. I bought this timer last summer (8 months ago) and I've had no problems with it. The magnet doesn't release from the refrigerator as I punch in the numbers. It does shift a bit. Maybe other users are being heavy handed? I've used it to remind me of events later in the day, setting it as far ahead as 7 hours and however many minutes I need. So it should work fine to time a roast. It's a simple unit and I've gotten a lot of use out of it without it breaking. Hopefully it will last for years. I'm buying another one today for my husband to use in his office. That's the best recommendation I can give it.
