(More customer reviews)I had one of these timers for two years, and after countless bumps, falls and water splashes (working through all the mishaps), the tripod stand on the back finally broke off. I had tried other brand timers before this one, and this one lasted about 1 year and 11 months longer than the others. While it still works like a dream, it was a hassle, not being able to stand it up so I could see it.
Before buying this, I noticed that another reviewer said the new Acrurite timer was not as loud as the one she previously owned (same brand and model), so I was a bit apprehensive about ordering it. However, I loved my old one so much, I decided to bite the bullet and try it despite the negative review. I believe the other reviewer must have got a defective unit, because my new Acurite is every bit as loud as my old one. Yes, I did a side-by-side comparison of my old and new units.
Okay, now for the features that made me fall in love with this timer more than two years ago... The numbers and buttons are HUGE! I don't even have to wear my glasses to see it across the room. The magnet is very strong AND sturdy. I can set (and start) the timer while it's on the fridge, and it doesn't wobble (not even a little). This means it doesn't fall or drop as often as the previous timers I had. The thing I like best about this timer? It can take a lot of abuse! Even with the strong magnet on the back, there are inevitable falls and drops (like when I'm carrying it from one room to the next with wet hands). Even accidently splashing water on this timer hasn't killed it. With my previous timers, even getting a couple drops of water on them would cause them to die. Not so with this timer. Of course, I'm not recommending that one abuse his/her timer, but when you experience inevitable timer mishaps, it's not a tragedy.
Like I said, even with all the abuse my two-year old timer took, it still works as good as when it was new. I'm keeping it as a spare (for those times I forget where I put the new one).
I'm glad I gave this timer a second chance. I would suggest to the other reviewer to either call the company (if his/her timer is still under warranty) or take a chance on another one. It really IS that good!
