It tends to eat the battery a bit when you set all functions to go off at once, but then it comes back when you just put one on... I didn't consider it a problem at all, as I use it for meditation, and didn't need a super loud beeping. Love it. Bring it back.

Blue Digital Sand Timer by Polder Review

(More customer reviews)A problem was immediately apparent when I removed the Polder Digital Hourglass Kitchen Timer from its packaging: The reflection from the clear plastic covers over the LCD displays makes reading the time from more than couple of feet away very hard or impossible.
(What isn't apparent from the picture on the product page is that there are actually plastic coverings over the LCD screens, so the picture doesn't show any indication of the problem with reflection.)
A few more complaints:
(1) Although the aesthetics of the timer is quite appealing overall, the timer looks a lot more plasticky than it does in the picture from the product page. While the construction of the unit isn't exactly shoddy, it doesn't scream quality either.
(2) The timer malfunctioned on me once -- the display froze up (not sure what I did to cause that) and the only way I was able to unfreeze it was to remove the battery and put it back in.
(3) The unit is poorly packaged -- when I took the unit out of the package, it already had a few scratches on one side (probably came from the unit being bumped around in the package).
There *are* a couple of things I really like about the timer, however.
(1) When stood on one of its ends, the timer displays the clock; when it's inverted, the timer displays the countdown timer. Nifty!
(2) It continues to keep track of the time elapsed after the timer has counted down to zero.
The timer comes in red, silver, black, and white as well.

The Polder Digital Hourglass Kitchen Timer serves its intended purpose very well. But I would have to give it an overall rating of 3.5 stars because of the issue with the hard-to-read LCD displays and the slightly less-than-satisfactory quality of the build.

But, we had trouble getting it to work right and we're pretty sure that we broke it while messing with it. We're really not rough people; it just seems that the timer is much too easy to break. (Note: We learned that this timer must be turned all the way to 60 and then back to the time you want. The instructions don't say that. The timer still didn't work for us, but we think it was already broken by the time we learned about that.)

The buzzer is so faint and short, that you have to be standing nearby in the kitchen to hear it. Tonight I burned what would have been a wonderful pie because I was in another room when this weak buzzer sounded-and I didn't hear a thing.
I've had it! I've just ordered the Oregon Scientific digital timer to replace this cheap thing.

It's nice that its digital and it's true that it has a solid, heavy base - but it takes too much time to set. the timer includes hours, minutes, and seconds. There is no "enter" button, so you have to wait for each time increment to pass before setting the next one. Since I usually only use minutes and am sometimes in a hurry when setting the timer, this timer was just not convenient to use.

(More customer reviews)I've had several irrigation timers, and this is BY FAR the easiest to program. In my city, my house can irrigate only in dark hours on Sundays and Thursdays. Setting that up is a snap.
You can download the SST-400i manual from the Rainbird site...if you've ever installed and used an irrigation timer before, page 5 of 12 tells all you need to know.
To water zone 3 at any random time, you turn the dial to 3 and push the Water Now button. Unfortunately, you need to remember later to return the dial to Automatic.
The only limitation that I know is for watering a zone more than once a day. It can irrigate twice, thrice or 4 times a day, but only on a set schedule of a certain number of hours after the first irrigation time. I haven't actually used this, because it would cause irrigation to occur during forbidden daylight hours. I wanted to irrigate one particular zone at 30 minutes after midnight, then again 21 hours later at 9:30 PM, but that is not possible. See the "Step 5" text on page 5 of the manual for more about this limitation.
If your finger is worn out from pushing little buttons dozens of times on your existing controller, you will really love this unit.

(More customer reviews)I purchased and installed this Swylite Digital Wall Switch last November 2005 to control two outdoor patio lights with compact fluorescent lights (CFL). I also own an Intermatic 7 Day Wall Switch Timer that sells on Amazon for $5 more (the Intermatic switch is a poor product that broke and I don't recommend it.) I'm very satified with the operation and performance of this switch with no problems to report.
(NOTE: One of the reviewers posting on the Intermatic switch incorrectly stated "Electronic switch models cannot turn on CFL but only handle incadescent lamp." This Swylite switch is an electronic switch and handles CFL type lights just fine.)
Pros
1. Easy to program
2. Clear easy to read display (unlike the Intermatic switch)
3. Flush, low profile face (unlike the protruding Intermatic face)
4. No batteries needed (as required by the Intermatic switch)
5. Power outage memory (similar to the Intermatic switch unless the battery in the Intermatic switch dies)
6. Manual "on" switch is easily accessible and use (similar to the Intermatic switch)
7. Solid state design (unlike the Intermatic switch that has a small solenoid and gears to operate reducing reliability, durability, and increasing complexity)
8. Has programmed on/off, random on/off, manual on/off capability (similar to Intermatic)
Cons
1. Somewhat bulky installation, i.e., wire harness protrudes out from the side toward the rear of the unit making installation a little tougher than it should be. (similar to Intermatic switch)
2. Manual "On" Switch could have a little more solid feel, i.e., it has a slightly lightweight feel and doesn't have a crisp click when activated. However, the manual switch has been reliable. (Intermatic intelligently uses the front cover as a manual switch and works well when/if it works at all.)
Bottomline: I would buy this Swylite product again if I need a timer switch.

This seemed like a good compromise. When my daughter wants to play for 5 more minutes, I just have the set the timer. The contrast of the display is not the best so you need good light to see it, but it does have a light that turns on for a few seconds.

(More customer reviews)I bought this timer because it had three sand glasses with different time intervals (3, 4, and 5 minute) and as they were multicolored, it was also visually appealing. It is well constructed with the metal parts appearing to be stainless steel. Unfortunately, two of the glasses have a habit of clogging and if the sand stops flowing before all of it has gone through it's not very effective when cooking eggs. I'd like to return it but with the supplier located in Canada, is it worth the trouble? If I wasn't retired I'd probably have it on my desk at work to act as a conversation starter.

(More customer reviews)This is my first sprinkler controller and I was surprised that everything worked the first time I set it up.
As another reviewer pointed out, the programming options on this timer are TOO simple.
For example...if you want to water a zone twice a day, say at 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. you CANNOT do that with this controller. You can set it to water the zone twice a day, but it takes this to mean 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. (Start time plus half of 12 hours.) There is no way to change this. I called the manufacturer to confirm.
If you really have 9 zones to control you probably need a timer with more flexibility than this timer provides.

It hangs on the side of the refrigerator and is super easy to program. It is small and LOUD!!! I have three timers going at any one time and two are 'gentle reminders' to check the ovens. NOT this one! This timer is small, demanding and the sound is not one you can't ignore! The sound is the only reason I did not give it 5 stars...but then again...THAT may be the PERFECT reason to buy it!

Polder Dual Sensor Thermometer and Timer Review

(More customer reviews)Although this is a few bucks more than some other probe thermometers, there is a nasty little secret those others usually keep hidden until you buy them and start reading the fine print in the manual: they can only be used up to temperatures of something like 375. That rules out the whole reason I want the thing--roasting, where I pretty much always have at least some period of cooking above that temperature.
In contrast, this beauty has a range up to 572, along with a much heavier, less kinky cord than my old Taylor.
Just that would be plenty to sell me on this model, but wait... there's MORE! In addition to telling you the temperature of your food, it has a separate sensor that gives a readout of the oven temperature. Since home ovens almost always run a bit off from the set temperature, this is critical. It's a real joy to get the temperature reading from the *outside* of the oven, rather than trying to read it off a grimy, unreliable dial thermometer that you probably knocked to the bottom of the oven when you put your pans in anyway.
On top of all that, it also includes a timer. No more accidentally clearing your timer when you go to use the microwave!
Because this replaced two separate thermometers in my oven, it actually works out to be the cheaper option. But even if it were more, I'd still recommend it for the convenience and because it (so far, at least) seems to be of a markedly higher quality than the competitors.
