(More customer reviews)I have to say this is one of the best purchases I've made recently. My old Emerson alarm clock had smaller green numbers, and had a built in radio and two separate alarms.
I prefer the Two Inch blue numbers of the Italk Reminder Assistant It is the sane as the original Italk, except that the original has red numbers and doesn't offer the ability to record 10 daily reminders.. Otherwise they are the pretty much the same in form and function
The Jensen talking Alarm allows setting two alarms and also has a built in radio. The Moshi alarm clock is another stranger choice
All of the these have a different look and respond to different commands.
I bought the Reminder Assistant, because I like the big blue 2" numbers over green or red. The device is charcoal black and seems well built. The numbers despite being bigger then on most clocks sometimes have a glare due the reflections from the curved black plastic. but otherwise they are easily visible.
You must say "reminder assistant" to activate the alarm. It ask what you what. and you can tell it to "set alarm" or "set reminder" and a few other things. You need to set the date with the buttons on the back, but once you have configured the back buttons you really shouldn't need to touch them again.
I could see where the daily reminder would be good for someone who looses track of time and such, but I've only used it as an alarm clock and so far it works great as that. It hears me well when I'm talking, and about 8 times out of 10 the devise hears me correctly. Fortunately it verbally repeats what it heard and shows you too. So if it did hear a mistake you can quickly correct it
This clock is two bright a night even on dim setting. You could use it as a night light
You can choose multiple alarms to wake up too, but the "good morning" girl telling you the time is my personal favorite.
It only has one alarm, where the Jensen has 2 and a built in radio. Plus the Jensen is cheaper.
I happened to like my unit though, it seems well made, and has never failed to wake me up. And when it does wake me I can say "snooze" or "end alarm" Make sure you say "10:00AM" when you set time and not "10 O'clock am". Once you undreamed the verbiage its pretty easy and there are only a handful phrases you need to know.
I'm able to talk over TV and people to set it. I can even yell from another. Obviously though to closer you are and the mos precise your words, the better it will hear you.
Overall this is a pretty good alarm, it looks nice and works well.
UPDATE 9/15/10 - Ok having used this item for a few more weeks, I'd probably knock a star off this. The biggest problem is this brightness given off at night. Even on the dim setting, this clock lights up the room like a nightlight. If you like sleeping in pitch black rooms, you don't want this item. I've had to turn the clock against the wall or down on its face when it really bothers me. The brightness seems fine during the day however.
Despite the numbers being taller and thicker then on my previous clock, they actually looks a little blurrier then the smaller numbers on my old clock. I think that is because of the glare and brightness and maybe the curvature of the plastic. The are still perfectly readable, just seem a tad fuzzy.
The voice mechanism works and recognizes your commands about 9 out of 10 times. It is less accurate when you have to specify your time. More like 7 out of 10 times. Fortunately it both says and shows you the time it thinks you said, so you can immediately correct it, if it got it wrong. It almost always hears me right the second time. I've only had the bedroom TV accidentally activate the speaking mechanism on the clock once.
