Weather Light Review

Weather Light
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have a few atomic/weather instruments and this is the first time I tried Oregon Scientific products. When the clock arrived it was packaged very well, either for personal use or as a gift. The clock design is very attractive, and the colors of the display set it off. I purchased it for a bedroom nightstand clock and in that respect I've been slightly disappointed. The reasons for the disappointment are two-fold. The first problem is there is no ajustment for how bright the clock display is, and my wife is constantly complaining how bright it is in the room. The second problem is also annoying, as the brightness "pulses" up and down. It feels like we have an old store neon light in our room as the brightness keeps changing every 15 seconds. I don't know what the purpose of this is but it is annoying. During the day though, the display is harder to see. There are 2 reasons for this, the one is the brightness is not bright enough, the second is there is a very limited point of view. If you move to the right or left of the clock the display becomes limited. If you are right in front of the clock the display is fine, go back 10 feet though and it is hard to make out. Other then these complaints, the quality is fine, it was an easy setup and the remote unit for the weather along with the atomic clock feature worked flawless. Overall, for the money, it is a decent product.

Sony ICF-C180COS Radio AM/FM- Dream Machine Review

Sony ICF-C180COS Radio AM/FM- Dream Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
You would not believe how hard it is to find a decent alarm clock. All I wanted was a alarm clock that shut off automatically on the weekend but the Emerson Research smart set was the only 2\5\7 day setting alarm clock I liked. After buying two of those and having issues with both, one the radio would lose the station over time and not wake you up, two, a brand new one having a bad LED and poor radio reception. Emerson needs to check their quality and then maybe they will have a great product. Yes this Sony has a hard to read display because of the viewing angle but if you have a small table next to the bed it works just fine. The radio pulls in every station and sounds good and loud for the size of the device. The alarms are really easy to set all you do is turn the knob to the desired time. Plus all you have to do is hit one button to shut the alarms off for the weekend or have two new sets of alarms. This thing gives you up to four alarms. If it had a better display I would give it 5 stars.

La Crosse Technology WT-967S Metal Strap Atomic Watch Review

La Crosse Technology WT-967S Metal Strap Atomic Watch

This is a great watch.
It looks stylish and syncs automatically with the atomic reference in Colorado. Please note that because it syncs automatically, there is only one button!! You will not be able to easily set it manually, but you don't need to. Using the one button, you just need to select the time zone you are in,
and once the watch syncs, you are set.
The display is clear from all angles and all light conditions including semi-bright sunlight, which is much better than many other LCD watches.
Band is adjustable, great watch.

Oregon Scientific BAR908HGA Blue Line Weather Forecaster Review

Oregon Scientific BAR908HGA Blue Line Weather Forecaster
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I feel deceived. I bought this pricey product based on it prominently proclaiming "Metal" on the box, thinking this wouldn't be something that I'd want to trash once it falls on the floor and gets cracked. I also hoped it wasn't made in China.
Well, it is made in China and it is not all metal. It's plastic with a metal band around the display and plastic base. The range of the one remote sensor is poor; it would not transmit from downstairs to directly upstairs in our house. I also cannot get atomic clock synchronization to work (it doesn't find the radio station). It also it much more expensive that similar Oregon Scientific products. The array of setting buttons on the back is also counter-intuitive and the rather bright always-on LCD back light makes it unsuitable for use on one's nightstand.
I used to very much like Oregon Scientific products, but see that they were bought out by a Taiwanese company about 10 years ago. So I am not seemingly not buying American at all.
Pros: Slick blue lighting, five possible remote controls (interestingly the manual sounds like there should be a UV sensor also be included, but only the single temperature and humidity control is in the package)
Cons: deceiving packaging, poor wireless sensor performance, clumsy controls, expensive

iLuv HD Radio & Dual Alarm Clock - Black (I168) Review

iLuv HD Radio and Dual Alarm Clock - Black (I168)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I don't typically write reviews, but i am writing this as a response to a particularly malicious review which claims that this radio is unable to receive AM-HD radio stations.
The radio arrived in attractive, high-quality packaging, with both AM and FM antennas (zero reception without them.) I haven't read the instructions (it's a radio...) but they are included as well.
I quickly unwound the power cord, plugged in the FM antenna, and plugged the radio in. Right away i was impressed with the overall build quality. Nice new-electronics smell, the display is really really beautiful, and unique (inverted black/white LCD is quite eye-catching.) The buttons feel sturdy, and give good feedback when pressed (a nice 'click' or notchiness.)
I've found more than a dozen of stations in my area that have HD stations available. There's a few 'hidden' stations in my area, as well. I was treated to a comedy station (106.5-2) as well as a 50's/60's oldies station (105.7-2.) Besides the 'hidden' stations, and the COMPLETE lack of noise or distortion when listening in digital, the sound quality difference is negligible through the small speakers, but is amazing through headphones. The lack of distortion, and perfect tuning is worth something, tho.
The real benefit is in the AM stations. The only station in my area (that i could find) that is broadcasting AM-HD in my area is WTAM 1100 out of cleveland. It takes a few seconds to kick in, but when the radio recognizes the digital station, and switches over, the quality difference is AMAZING. The difference in quality is literally the difference between traditional AM and FM reception. I really can't stress how incredible the difference really is. The radio personalities i've listened to every evening suddenly sound so much more real, and completely different, as they're now crystal clear (as well as completely free of typical AM noise/interference.)
The overall sound quality is ok. It certainly wont replace a stereo or bose-esque bookshelf system, but it's really a clock-radio at it's heart, and in the realm of clock-radios, this is among the best i've ever heard.
If you need a (nice) clock radio, or if you're like me and just wanted an inexpensive HD-radio to play with, you can't go wrong with this product. The price is right, and if the thought of listening to HD-Radio through such small speakers is making you hesitant, the headphone jack is GREAT.

I rated this 2/5 for one simple reason: The LED display is so bright that I literally have a blue glow in my bedroom, and that's when I have the dimmer turned to the lower setting. With it in the high setting, I see shadows in the room. It's crazy. Other than that, the sound quality of the radio is pretty flat.

I was given this watch as a gift in November of 2006. Less than one year later I noticed the time was 5 minutes slow. After several emails with the distributor to correct the problem, I was told to ship the watch back. When I received the watch, the problem was fixed for about 2 or 3 weeks then it went back to being 5 minutes slow again. I emailed the company again, several times, and so far they've ignored me.
Great concept but not worth the price tag if they can't stand behind the product.

Always know the exact time, whether at home or on the go, with this EH-12 series atomic watch from E.Howard by La Crosse. With its built-in receiver, the watch receives radio signals from the NIST WWVB Atomic Clock in Fort Collins, Colorado and resets the time and date nightly according to these transmissions. Likewise, the watch automatically adjusts for daylight savings time.
The watch’s 1-1/2-inch diameter case features polished stainless-steel rims and a classic analog design. Protected by scratch-resistant crystal, black Arabic numerals and minute markers circle the 1-1/10-inch diameter dial. A .153-by-.31-inch LCD in the center of the watch face displays the date, the seconds, or the selected time zone and a radio-reception icon. To set the time, the user employs the two buttons on the side of the watch to select the proper zone from the twenty-four available settings. The watch then searches automatically for a signal from the WWVB to obtain the exact time and date for that time zone. With a 4/5-inch width, the black leather wristband adjusts from 6-1/2 to 8 inches. This watch is water resistant up to 100 feet. Covered by a limited one-year warranty, the watch comes with a 3V CR1620 lithium battery installed.

This clock came out in Korea a little over a week ago. I bought it at my favorite Korean store to use in my bedroom. It(sony) is a great American brand I always try to find American things to put in my house. I got this one because i like Sony a lot. I have had a Sony clock beofer this and it lasted for many years. I just got it yesterday and i used it last night. Even though the shape seems a little wierd with the time being to the back of the clock it did not make a very big difference. I think I actually like it better the time being not right in your face, like most other clocks have their screen at the front of their machine. This is a wounderful clock my by one of the best American companies in the WHOLE WORLD.

Sangean RCR-1 Advanced Atomic Clock Radio - Silver Review

Sangean RCR-1 Advanced Atomic Clock Radio - Silver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This clock radio is OUTSTANDING!!! (and it looks great). The time accuracy (atomic clock) is beyond compare. The AM/FM PLL synthesized radio is static free and has excellent sound. Not stereo, but still pleasing! The unit is feature-laden. I love the "Humane Waking System" which gradually ramps up the sound for both alert/radio alarms so as not to jolt you out of bed. I'm a very heavy sleeper, and the adjustable volume for both alarms makes it plenty loud to get up. The independence of both alarms makes this extremely convenient for husband/wife and weekday/weekend settings. Another nice feature is the "nap" function. Set it and the alarm goes off from 10 minutes to 2 hours later, without having to touch the normal alarms. The background light display is a pleasing pastel blue, which changes to orange leting you know that the alarm is serious! The adjustability of the display is excellent, including a dimmer at the push of a button, and completely off if you so desire. I could go on and on about the features of this unit. However, here is where the "but" comes in...the instruction manual is not the most clearly written. The most serious problem, in my opinion, was not being able to pick up the atomic signal. Sure the instruction manual warns you that it might take up to 48 hours to receive the signal. It also warns you that the unit might need to be repositioned to receive the signal. I was frustrated after not getting the signal for a couple of days. Then I noticed that the back of the radio has a circular slot for the rectangular "block-shaped" atomic signal antenna. Once I put the antenna in the slot, the signal was received, and has been maintained ever since. This was NOT stated in the instruction manual. Another minor criticism is there are 14 (7 AM and 7FM) presets, not 21 as stated in the manual. 14 is more than enough for me. The alarm instructions took some patience to learn. These criticisms of the instruction manual should in no way detract from the features and quality of the product, both of which are excellent. Buy this and you will be extremely happy. Just be patient and fiddle around with it. Nothing beats trial and error when it comes to high-tech gadgets.

Emerson CKS3029 - Clock radio Review

Emerson CKS3029 - Clock radio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Living in hurricane territory, I definitely wanted some clocks that would function with or without the help of Florida Light and Power and that I would not have to reset whenever I experience a momentary loss of power. Three Emerson Smartsets made us a very happy household for almost two years now, until this morning. I went over to Brookstone where I know they sell these clocks to complain that my clock did not Spring forward. They handed me a sheet explaining how to manually update my clock (something I will need to do 4 times a year for my clocks purchased pre Marc 2006). Here's how you do it for anyone frustrated as I was:
1. On the second Sunday in March, set your clock to the next lowest number time zone (for example, if you live in the Eastern Time zone, Zone 02, you will change your clock to Zone 01 to move it ahead by one hour)
2. On the first Sunday in April, when the clock will automatically advance itself by one hour for whatever time zone you are in. You will then need to set the clock back to your correct time zone (Zone 02 if you are in the Eastern time Zone)
3. On the last Sunday in October, you would again set your clock to the next lower numbered time zone (Zone 01 if you are in the Eastern time zone). Your clock was not originally set to change times on this date.
4. On the first Sunday in November, the date your clock has been preprogrammed to fall back, you would again set your clock back to your correct time zone (Zone 02 if you are in the Eastern time zone).
Really this is a circumstance beyond Emerson's control, but I am starting to think that what Emerson needs to do is bring this smartset technology to an actual Atomic clock and then the government can change daylight savings time start and end dates as many times as they want, without Emerson consumers ever experiencing any problems. Until then, I hope this has helped someone who like me scoured the Internet for information on how to change the time on these not-so-smartsets after all.

Harnessing the power of MSN Direct Weather Service, the WeatherNow II from Oregon Scientific offers weather information and forecasts without the need for remote outdoor sensors, elaborate setup, or a computer connection. Plug in the device, and WeatherNow II automatically receives an FM radio signal from MSN Direct and begins displaying time/date and current local outdoor conditions. It also has readouts for the current day’s forecast, high and low temps, chance of precipitation, and weather predictions for the next three days. It is the perfect devise for anyone interested in a home weather station but not the complications of involved programming or setup.
To help with real-world planning and preparations, the WeatherNow II’s LCD screen also shows a “feels like” temperature, which factors in wind chill and the heat index, for a more accurate description of actual outdoor conditions. The display automatically toggles back and forth between the “feels like” reading and a UV-index display, providing the day’s UV conditions from low to extremely high. Four-day forecast conditions are shown in 12 different graphic icons, indicating clear, partly cloudy, cloudy, rain, snow, thunder, dust, fog, haze, smoke, windy, or frigid. In addition, trend arrows show whether temperature and humidity are rising, falling, or holding steady.
Alongside its detailed weather information, WeatherNow II also includes clock and calendar readings, as well as sunset time, indoor temp, and signal reception. Other features include an alarm with snooze and a backlight for viewing in the dark. The unit comes with an AC adapter, but can also run off four AA batteries, not included, as a backup power source in the event of an electrical outage.
