Oregon Scientific BAR908HGA Blue Line Weather Forecaster Review

I feel deceived. I bought this pricey product based on it prominently proclaiming "Metal" on the box, thinking this wouldn't be something that I'd want to trash once it falls on the floor and gets cracked. I also hoped it wasn't made in China.
Well, it is made in China and it is not all metal. It's plastic with a metal band around the display and plastic base. The range of the one remote sensor is poor; it would not transmit from downstairs to directly upstairs in our house. I also cannot get atomic clock synchronization to work (it doesn't find the radio station). It also it much more expensive that similar Oregon Scientific products. The array of setting buttons on the back is also counter-intuitive and the rather bright always-on LCD back light makes it unsuitable for use on one's nightstand.
I used to very much like Oregon Scientific products, but see that they were bought out by a Taiwanese company about 10 years ago. So I am not seemingly not buying American at all.
Pros: Slick blue lighting, five possible remote controls (interestingly the manual sounds like there should be a UV sensor also be included, but only the single temperature and humidity control is in the package)
Cons: deceiving packaging, poor wireless sensor performance, clumsy controls, expensive

Oregon Scientific BAR208HGA Advanced Weather Station with Atomic Time Review

Oregon Scientific BAR208HGA Advanced Weather Station with Atomic Time

I've only had this weather station for a week, but I already love it. Very easy to use. Had it setup in a couple of minutes. Sensor reception is excellent. I mounted the sensor on the back wall of our house next to a window. The station is located on the lowest level of our house (partially underground) with several walls between it and the sensor and they work perfect. The unit has an excellent back light that is orange in color like a midsummer sunset and illuminates the entire screen well.
The only slight disappointment for me is the poor reception for the Atomic clock signal. I am located on the east coast in eastern PA and with the unit in the lower level of the house on the east side, it just doesn't receive the signal. Not a huge deal, I just set the clock manually. I would recommend this unit to anyone looking for a well rounded unit that provides a nice amount of data for a great price.

Get the onsite weather conditions from all angles with this feature-packed weather station from Oregon Scientific. Graphic weather icons indicate what it’s like outside before the day begins: rainy, sunny, window, cloudy… so you know how to dress for the day. The weather station monitors indoor and outdoor temperature from up to 3 remote locations (additional sensors sold separately) for monitoring conditions in the garden, the wine cellar, or the baby's room. The unit provides weather forecasts and weather warning messages for extreme heat, high winds, storms, fog and frost. A self-setting atomic clock displays in either 12- or 24- hour format with time zone offset feature and month/day calendar. All this displayed on a large LCD with a white backlight for nighttime viewing.

La Crosse Technology WT-3102S 10-Inch Atomic Analog Wall Clock, Silver Review

La Crosse Technology WT-3102S 10-Inch Atomic Analog Wall Clock, Silver

This is an attractive 10" clock, white face, silver bezel (also available with black). The unique feature is the ability to synchronize with the atomic clock (WWWVB) in Ft. Collins, CO. Watching the hands speed around the dial as it initially sets itself is worth the price of the clock in itself. We bought one for a play room and liked it so much we bought two more.
After placing the battery, the clock begins searching for the signal. Generally it only takes a couple of minutes to sync, but it came take up to 24 hours. You need to set the time zone in which you live (Pacific, Eastern, etc). The clock automatically adjusts for DST (part of the WWWVB signal, apparently). If you live in areas of the country that don't recognize DST, there is a button on the clock to disable the DST offset.
Note that for the clock to receive the WWWVB signal, it cannot be in a shielded environment. We've had no problems in our home placing the unit in various rooms with an outside window, but I suspect it might not work in a windowless basement (in which case it functions as a regular clock). My company bought a ton of similar clocks, only to find that they cannot receive the signal in a windowless, steel building. Your mileage may vary.
