Timex TX6130 Wireless Three-Window Indoor/Outdoor Electronic Thermometer with Hygrometer Review

Timex TX6130 Wireless Three-Window Indoor/Outdoor Electronic Thermometer with Hygrometer

I liked the freeze alert & humidity sensor. The user manual says it is accurate to +/- 5%. The outdoor sensor cannot be placed within 6ft of a TV/Computer monitor/metal, etc. It also needs to be protected (somewhat) from the elements. Inexpensive 20.

They say it's not the heat, but the humidity. Well fret not, because the versatile Timex TX6130 wireless electronic thermometer displays both at the same time. The compact unit--which sits unobtrusively on a desktop, table, or shelf--sports a trio of LCDwindows with bold, conspicuous readouts. The top window displays the indoor temperature, the middle window displays your choice of the indoor relative humidity or time, and the bottom window shows the outdoor temperature. As a result, you can instantly gauge whether to wear shorts or pants on a seemingly mild summer day, make sure the humidity level is correct in the greenhouse, or crank the air conditioner as the afternoon progresses. The temperature readings range from 32 to 122 degrees F (0 to 50 degrees C) for the indoor temperature to 14 to 122 degrees F (-10 to 50 degrees C) for the outdoor temperature. The relative humidity, meanwhile, is measured on a scale of 20 to 90 percent, with the hygrometer performing best between 40 and 70 percent.
The TX6130 is remarkably easy to read--even from across the room--thanks to the pronounced digits, which measure 0.62 inches tall. Even better, the system comes with a wireless remote sensor/transmitter that measures the outdoor temperature from up to 100 feet away. The extended range of the wireless transmitter lets you place the main station virtually anywhere without losing the remote signal. Both the main station and the transmitter come with integral fold-out table stands for shelf or desk placement, along with built-in keyhole slots for wall mounting. Note, however, that the remote sensor should not be exposed to direct sunlight and must be protected from rain, snow, and wind.
The TX6130 also features a minimum/maximum memory function that records the high and low temperatures and humidity levels of the day. The values are available at the push of a button, with a second button clearing and resetting the memory on command. And gardeners will love the unit's Freeze Alert function, which sounds an audible five-second beep every minute and flashes a "Freeze" icon once the temperature falls into the freezing zone of 37.4 to 30.2 degrees F (3 to -1 degrees C). The alert gives you plenty of time to move sensitive plants indoors or protect the roots of larger plants outdoors. Users can also mute the beep or turn the alert off completely.
The TX6130's built-in clock is no slouch, either, with settings for 12-hour (with AM and PM) and 24-hour modes along with an alarm and a five-minute snooze button. Add in a snazzy white housing, an iPod-like control panel, and a red LED on the transmitter and you have an attractive, highly functional thermometer that's ideal for kitchens, greenhouses, saunas, and a host of other locations. Power requirements include three AAA batteries for the main unit and three more AAA batteries for the transmitter (not included), with alkaline batteries recommended in most cases.
The TX6130's main station measures 2.06 by 6.94 by 0.94 inches (W x H x D) without the stand, while the remote sensor checks in at 3.06 inches in diameter and 1.06 inches deep. The entire bundle is backed by a one-year factory warranty.

This wireless indoor-outdoor thermometer works as advertised. Its remote sensors have very good range and seem quite accurate. It was frustrating to set up because the instructions were not very clear. Once you figure out how to set up the sensors and base, you should write down how you did it. If you don't write it down you'll get frustrated when you have to change the batteies in one of the sensors.

Oregon Scientific WR113 Weather Radio with Temperature and Freeze Alarm Review

Oregon Scientific WR113 Weather Radio with Temperature and Freeze Alarm
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Bought the Oregon Scientific Weather Radio on their reputation as being a top notch innovative company. I have owned an older version of a weather radio 8 years ago and wanted to get a newer model that had better reception. Radio also came with AC adapter which is a selling point.
The Good: Ordered it from Amazon and got it in three days. Super fast.
Radio's yellow color is easy to locate in a hurry. Radio sensitivity was good.
The Bad: Radio is below par for Oregon Scientific. As read on other reviews of the WR103 (similar to WR113) on the net, the temperature reading is way off. Was reading 75 degrees when my digital thermostat read 68. Believe me, it was not 75 degrees.

Other problem right out of the box was that the received station cut out every ten seconds just as if it was programmed to do that. You could set your clock to the every ten seconds the audio cut out all you heard was hiss. Thought it was the station so I turned on the old radio and the signal was there all the time just as always. Called Oregon Scientific and could not get through in three days. Sent them an email and received a note that they would contact me within four(4) days. How many bad products could they now be selling that it takes customer service four days to return a call. They never got back to me. I returned it to Amazon and got a refund.
Oregon Scientific - Do away with that annoying beep every time you press a button. In the middle of the night, I don't want to be waking others with that obnoxious beeping. My older radio did not have that annoying function and it's temperature reading was accurate.
Don't know what to say about our American companies sending their products overseas for manufacturing and they have no quality control over them.

Three levels of warnings: advisory, watch, warning are shown. The radio provides both audio and visual alerts (100B audio and visual alert). There's also a clock with dual alarm and snooze, was well as a handy calendar. A memory function saves settings during power failure. The unit also features flexible programming, letting you add up to six S.A.M.E broadcasts with ease. A blue backlight makes data easy to read at night. Enviracaire E10 Digital Humidity/Temperature Indicator Review

Enviracaire E10 Digital Humidity/Temperature Indicator
Average Reviews:

We own four of these little hygrometers. I've found them to be accurate -- all are within 1-2% relative humidity of one another when placed next to each other (in general, hygrometers that are within 5% of each other are considered pretty accurate for low-cost, consumer-grade hygrometers). I have them dispersed throughout the house, so I can verify the temperature and humidity in each room.
The price is pretty reasonable, too. I like the look of these units, and their simplicity. The only "option" you can select is whether the temperature is in F or in C.
The first one we bought two years ago, and the battery is still going strong. I haven't checked the type of battery, though, to see what will be needed when replacing.
With this little tool, it's been easy maintaining the humidity in our house between 40-45% year round with the aid of three humidifiers.

Not bad. I bought this one to replace a wired unit I had. It is very good at relaying an accurate temperature. The atomic clock is tricky, but works if you have a clear path to the northern sky. The channels went astray a couple of times, but once they are locked in they do well. I would recommend this product.

La Crosse Technology Weather Direct WD-3105U 4-Day Internet-Powered Wireless Forecaster, Titanium Review

La Crosse Technology Weather Direct WD-3105U 4-Day Internet-Powered Wireless Forecaster, Titanium
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The weather direct weather station was easy to set up, the instuctions were easy to follow. If I could change one thing about the weather station it would be how it displays the outdoor temperature. The outdoor temperature scrolls on the bottom of the screen, along with a written description of the weather report, and the name of the city the forcast is for. I don't like that you have to wait for the outdoor temperature to show up. I would rather it was available on the display all of the time. So far, the weather reports have been quite accurate. Some of the "expandable" features that it lists in the product description are available only if you pay for a subscription. For example, you have to pay if you want to view forcasts for more than one location or want severe weather alerts. If you are only wanting to see the forecast for one location its not a problem. Overall, I'm very pleased with the product.
Edit: I'm not so pleased with this product anymore. It quit working after about 6 weeks and I haven't been able to get it working again. It turned out to be a waste of time and money.

With this La Crosse Technology internet-powered wireless forecaster, one can check the projected weather without flipping on the TV, radio, or computer. The Weather Direct WD-3102U four-day forecaster sends free internet forecasts for the user-selected location to the display unit. A provided AC-powered gateway connects with a secure LAN cable to a network router for internet transmissions, whether or not the computer is on. Upon online registration, the user chooses the forecast location from over 60,000 US and Canadian locations. The forecaster also provides the outdoor temperature, measured from right outside the front door with the included TX-50U wireless sensor.
The titanium-framed display stands alone, or wall hangs. The current day’s forecast, internet-set time, and indoor temperature occupy the top LCD. In the center section, sky condition icons and projected high and low temperatures predict the next three days’ weather; forecasts update every six hours. The selected location, location forecast, sunrise/sunset times, and outdoor temperature scroll across the bottom LCD section. Additional function keys enable adjustments to LCD contrast, scrolling speed, and volume, Fahrenheit/Celsius selection, alarm setting, five-minute snooze activation, and viewing micro forecasts for morning, afternoon, evening, and night. Communicating with the display from up to 330 feet unobstructed, both the gateway and the outdoor sensor come with mounting hardware. Install the sensor out of direct rain and sunlight. No additional software or Wi-Fi connection is required. However, the system does necessitate high-speed internet service, a network router, and the separate purchase of two C and two AA batteries. A limited one-year warranty covers the forecaster. The display measures 4-4/5 inches wide by 1-1/2 inches deep by 5-1/5 inches high.

Chaney Instrument Wireless Weather Station w/ Remote Review

Chaney Instrument Wireless Weather Station w/ Remote
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought the Chaney Wireless Weather Station back in late August. I'll admit, I am very critical about my products, so this one was intensely reviewed. Overall, I think it was well worth the purchase (and the price was reasonable too!). This product tracks temperature and humidity from a remote sensor and the base station, as well as provides arrows that indicate the general trend (temp rising, falling, stabilizing). The clock is readable from a distance and the weather forecaster has been accurate about 90% of the time.
I would give this product 5 stars if not for a few things I have not liked about it. First, it is difficult to read the "Day of Week". Sure, I didn't buy a weather station to find out what day it was, but that feature would be nicer if it was readable from more than 5 feet away. Second, the moon phase icon likes to scroll around through the entire cycle. It remains on the actual phase for about 5 seconds, but it gets really annoying when your glancing at it and it's moving around, leaving you to wait for it to come to a halt again. Lastly, the weather forecaster seems a bit sensitive to barometric pressure changes. I don't know if this is uniform for all weather stations. Like I said earlier, it is right 90% of the time. However, sometimes it will jump from sunny to partly cloudy and then rainy when the Weather Channel says it will be rainy within the next 12 hours for sure. Also, my unit has trouble connecting to the Colorado station -- however, this is my problem, as I am in an apartment where even cell signals struggle getting in.
Overall, this unit was well worth the purchase. I would gladly recommend it to anybody buying a weather station. It is affordable, reliable, and has never given me any grief.

Davis Instruments Vantage Pro2 Weather Station (Wireless) Review

Davis Instruments Vantage Pro2 Weather Station (Wireless)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We took care of a home in Hawai'i that had a Davis Vantage Pro2 station installed and though I am the "weather nut" in the family, my wife became very interested and checked the full-function console screen every day. Each gust of wind would cause her to ask: "How strong was THAT one?" After five weeks there she was the one that suggested we order one for our home. I never dreamed that I could own one like this but Amazon prices it so that it is possible. The installation was simply clamping it to a 2" diameter pipe that sits in a cup on the deck and attaches to the eave of the house. I carry the console to the neighbors and show it off. They may purchase their own console (about $300) and read data from my transmitter package (1,000' range), or I can place duplicat consoles in the greenhouse, garage, or den, with a limit of eight total. Also, each console will re-transmit to another, in a "daisy-chain" fashion. Not only does this device display more current items then you could ever think of, it maintains past data and graphically depicts the previous 24 hours of most items. As an example, for rainfall you will get totals for today, this month, this year, the last 24 years (if it was running then), the current rate of rainfall, and the total rain for this storm. It will also tell you the totals of the last 24 storms. How accurate is it? With the optional software, The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will accept your data, (you can read about it if you go to: [...]), as well as schools and other groups. Optional equipment will allow you to determine if you should water your plants, to measure temperature in multiple places, and to read solar radiation levels. We are VERY happy with our Davis Vantage Pro2 system and strongly recommend it to you.

We have owned the silver unit (not the John Deere version) for over 6 years now and it has been reliable. We bought additional sensors for the unit multiple years after we bought the receiver and they worked as well. Now we have three remotes working. One outside, one in the garage, and one in the attic. I searched this item on Amazon in an attempt to buy another one for a gift, but I can only find the green one and I don't want the green one. Anyhow, I have multiple Oregon Scientific items and have had good luck with both of them. I guess they have created a loyal customer.

Taylor 1523 Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer and Hygrometer Review

Taylor 1523 Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer and Hygrometer
Average Reviews:

This product is not worth $10. Its temperature and humidity gauge is barely functional. The construction is shoddy, the backlight does not work, even with fully charged 1 AAA battery, the screen is only visible at 40-50% opacity, and sometimes is completely not visible unless you tilt it up and down and keep adjusting and maybe it'll come back on. If they had priced it at $3.99 it would have been more worth it. I'm very disappointed.

For quick and simple info on atmospheric conditions, the Taylor 1523 monitor tracks both temperature and humidity levels on a straightforward screen. Outfitted with a wire probe for placing outside, the unit toggles between outdoor temp and indoor temp readings. Its humidity display is just below and slightly smaller than the temp readout. The numeric layout is large and readable, and a backlight makes visibility easier. For long-term tracking, the model also includes high/low recall for both temperature and humidity. Built with a handy little flip stand, the piece runs on a single AAA battery, which is not included.

Oregon Scientific Giovannoni Weather Station Review

Oregon Scientific Giovannoni Weather Station
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've always been fascinated by Oregon Scientific products, but they didn't seem to have the aesthetic design that I was looking for....until I saw the Giovannoni Weather Station. This product has exquisite design.
Practically, it works like a dream as I'm monitoring the temperature inside, outside, in my cigar humidor and wine cellar. Cigars and wine require consistent and particular conditions in order to flourish. The Giovannoni handles up to five sensors (comes with one remote sensor, the others can be purchased additionally). With just a whirl of the dial, I can monitor any of the aforementioned places. Too cool for words.
My only issue is that in standby modus (when the dial is not being used) the screen is not illuminated and thus not easy to see the data. That cost it a star in my rating. Overall, the Giovannoni is quite recommendable.

Weather Station, WMS801/WBXS Silver Review

Weather Station, WMS801/WBXS Silver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
HARDWARE
The WMS801 is a one-piece unit that comes with a FM antenna and AC power supply. There are no sensors to place outside of your home to measure temperature, humidity, rainfall, etc. However, since there are no sensors, the unit downloads all of this information from digital FM broadcasts via the MSN Direct network. These digital broadcasts are hidden among radio channels and provide all the local weather info your WMS801 needs, and it updates several times an hour. The information comes from the same MSN weather service that you can access on the web. But in order to get this FM information, you need to first goto the MSN direct webpage and see if there actually is an FM signal in your neighborhood. Most decent sized cities have it (it works in Chicago and Madison, WI). The service is free with the purchase of this unit, but if you are not within the FM range of MSN Direct, then DO NOT purchase this unit.
The unit also comes with a built-in sensor to measure your indoor temperature and humidity, and comes with a clock that sets itself automatically. All of the buttons on the edges of the device are easy to hit and make sense. You access the different features of the WMS801 much like it was a watch. Hit the "mode" button to access the different categories and then hit the "select" button to cycle through the items within that category. Relatively simple.
SCREEN
The screen is a standard LED type with a nice indigo blue background light you can turn on in the dark. It's highly visible and the font sizes are large enough that you can see it from a reasonable distance (about 0-9 feet). The one downside is that you cannot display both the indoor and outdoor temperatures at the same time. It only takes one button press, but still, it would have been nice to see both temps simultaneously.
WEATHER INFO
The WMS801 has everything you need about the outdoor weather: temperature, barometric pressure, rainfall, UV index, humidity, wind speed and direction, wind chill or heat index and chance of rain. Also, it gives you a three day forecast for the next 3 days with the hi and low temps plus the chance of precipitation. Some MSN Direct locations may not offer all of that info, but I can only say that I receive all those data in Chicago and Madison. Finally, the weather station has a scrolling ticker at the top that tells you the visibility, air quality, and warnings. For example, if there is a tornado warning, the bottom of the unit has a light that flashes red while the ticker at the top will say "Tornado Warning in X,Y, and Z counties until 9:55pm."
PROBLEMS
Hardly any to speak of. I do wish it displayed the indoor and outdoor temps simultaneously, but it changes from inside to outside with one button press, so it's not that big of a deal. The only other downside is that there are 2 blue LED lights on the edges of the screen that are always on. I have the unit in my bedroom, and when I goto sleep, the room is dark and those two lights seem incredibly bright. My solution to this dilemma was to place two thin strips of black electrical tape over the lights to block them out. Problem solved.
Overall, as long as you are within a MSN Direct FM broadcast area you can't beat this unit. It's like having the Weather Channel always on in your room. You can wake up, see the forecast for the day and the next three days and plan accordingly...all without turning on your computer or TV. It's highly convienent and I highly recommend it.
