(More customer reviews)Didn't want a mechanical timer that sounds like it will fail at anytime and didn't want a digital timer with just a numerical countdown that may not be meaningful to my toddler. This seemed like a good compromise. When my daughter wants to play for 5 more minutes, I just have the set the timer. The contrast of the display is not the best so you need good light to see it, but it does have a light that turns on for a few seconds.

(More customer reviews)I bought this timer because it had three sand glasses with different time intervals (3, 4, and 5 minute) and as they were multicolored, it was also visually appealing. It is well constructed with the metal parts appearing to be stainless steel. Unfortunately, two of the glasses have a habit of clogging and if the sand stops flowing before all of it has gone through it's not very effective when cooking eggs. I'd like to return it but with the supplier located in Canada, is it worth the trouble? If I wasn't retired I'd probably have it on my desk at work to act as a conversation starter.

(More customer reviews)I bought this as a gift for a collector. He was thrilled and pointed out the thick brass plates used in construction. Absolutely the best one available out there. Came perfectly intact in the good packaging.
In addition, the seller is too good to believe in today's market places. They sent me a compass by mistake along with this hourglass and insisted that I keep it as a gift from them. Every communication was very cordial and helpful. Worth every penny to do business with such dealers. Recommend them highly!

(More customer reviews)This is a quality product for the money but mine shipped in a time warp. It clocked in at 1 min 10 seconds which is a bit off for a one minute timer.
Luckily you can unscrew the brass container, peel back some tape and remove sand until you get it to the time you want. But this issue earned it only 3 stars.

On occassion (about 5% of the time), the sand gets jammed in the neck of the hourglass and the timepiece ceases to function. This is annoying. I have to guess, however, that this is a sample defect rather than a problem across the board with the product. If my hourglass did not have this defect, I would have given it 5 stars.

(More customer reviews)I give this product a 5/10. The overall appearance of the product looks great , the aluminum finish and the white sand are very nice. As for the build and quality, mine came delivered with a broken piece which supports one end of the glass causing it to out move of place and move around, not saying that all of them are like this but it seems like they could have improved quality and stability in that area which holds the glass in place. The sand moves very smoothly, haven't had a problem with any clogging. The timer is accurate does follow the 60 min mark. i would not buy or recommend this product unless you plan on just using it as a decoration.

However, functionally it is not so great as the sand gets stuck in the little opening all the time and really will not manage to tell when 30 minutes have passed unless you constantly look at it and tap it to let the sand go down when it gets stuck. So if you are looking for functionality it will not perform great. Otherwise it is pretty.

I bought this as a gift for a collector in my family, for whom I have been purchasing hourglasses for the past decade. I value real brass and unique styles, so this seemed to be perfect. However, when the description says "brass frame," they mean Brass-colored thin metal, or at best, VERY cheap brass.
The piece arrived with visible splotches of rough discoloration (not to be buffed or polished away - I tried), and was crookedly mounted on a thin wood base. The base is almost too lightweight to support the frame, and seems unsteady.
If you are looking for a cheap decor piece that will last a couple years, this one's fine, but if you want a piece that can be passed down to successive collectors, look elsewhere.
Amazon, however, did an excellent job with shipping quality and speed. Super saver shipping got here within a week (unheard-of from them), with no issues!

Everyone who sees it admires it, and it's a good way for me to remind myself to get up every hour and at least stretch so I don't get too cramped up by sitting at my desk for hours at a time. The shipping packaging was great, so don't worry about it arriving broken. The only thing I can say that occasionally it does that I didn't expect is that it infrequently stops in the middle of the hour, but when I notice it, it only takes a little shake to get the sands moving again. I really like the hourglass, so if you've been looking for one, this is a fine-looking hourglass at a great price, so you should order it now!
