Blue Digital Sand Timer by Polder Review

A problem was immediately apparent when I removed the Polder Digital Hourglass Kitchen Timer from its packaging: The reflection from the clear plastic covers over the LCD displays makes reading the time from more than couple of feet away very hard or impossible.
(What isn't apparent from the picture on the product page is that there are actually plastic coverings over the LCD screens, so the picture doesn't show any indication of the problem with reflection.)
A few more complaints:
(1) Although the aesthetics of the timer is quite appealing overall, the timer looks a lot more plasticky than it does in the picture from the product page. While the construction of the unit isn't exactly shoddy, it doesn't scream quality either.
(2) The timer malfunctioned on me once -- the display froze up (not sure what I did to cause that) and the only way I was able to unfreeze it was to remove the battery and put it back in.
(3) The unit is poorly packaged -- when I took the unit out of the package, it already had a few scratches on one side (probably came from the unit being bumped around in the package).
There *are* a couple of things I really like about the timer, however.
(1) When stood on one of its ends, the timer displays the clock; when it's inverted, the timer displays the countdown timer. Nifty!
(2) It continues to keep track of the time elapsed after the timer has counted down to zero.
The timer comes in red, silver, black, and white as well.
---
The Polder Digital Hourglass Kitchen Timer serves its intended purpose very well. But I would have to give it an overall rating of 3.5 stars because of the issue with the hard-to-read LCD displays and the slightly less-than-satisfactory quality of the build.

Orka Electronic Sand Timer, Orange Review

Didn't want a mechanical timer that sounds like it will fail at anytime and didn't want a digital timer with just a numerical countdown that may not be meaningful to my toddler. This seemed like a good compromise. When my daughter wants to play for 5 more minutes, I just have the set the timer. The contrast of the display is not the best so you need good light to see it, but it does have a light that turns on for a few seconds.

3 In 1 Sand Timer by Danesco Review

I bought this timer because it had three sand glasses with different time intervals (3, 4, and 5 minute) and as they were multicolored, it was also visually appealing. It is well constructed with the metal parts appearing to be stainless steel. Unfortunately, two of the glasses have a habit of clogging and if the sand stops flowing before all of it has gone through it's not very effective when cooking eggs. I'd like to return it but with the supplier located in Canada, is it worth the trouble? If I wasn't retired I'd probably have it on my desk at work to act as a conversation starter.

It is a good looking timer. I use it with my students. They like to play with it. It hasn't broke. They do like to remove the sand timers from the foam pads holding them in the frame. A dab of silicone fixes the sand timers in place.

Antique Style Hourglass 3.5" : Brass, 1 min. Review

This is a quality product for the money but mine shipped in a time warp. It clocked in at 1 min 10 seconds which is a bit off for a one minute timer.
Luckily you can unscrew the brass container, peel back some tape and remove sand until you get it to the time you want. But this issue earned it only 3 stars.
Check your time!

This antique style hourglass is constructed from brass. Its running time is about 1 minute and the height is about 3.5".

Hourglasses were one of the few ways of measuring time out at sea. It's been suggested that their use started as early as the 11th century. Magellan even carried 18 hourglasses on each of his ships during his trip around the globe. His pages used them to provide the time for the ship's log. From the 1400s they have been used in capacities ranging from kitchen timers to industrial uses.

These hourglasses make beautiful display pieces in any nautical or Old Fashion decor.

The 3-minute timer seems well put together. I have had no problems with it. It was purchased as a silent way of holding yoga positions for about three minutes. When timed, it was about 3 minutes and 7 seconds. I would buy it again.

A venerable design, that still functions, much more reliably than some newer inventions we might add. So whether you're timing an egg, a naughty child, or your stand mixer, you can rely on this. The sand doesn't lie, and it doesn't require any batteries either.

Classic Cherry Hourglass Sand Timer Accent Clock Review

Classic Cherry Hourglass Sand Timer Accent Clock

This sand timer is very pretty, sturdy and in general a nice addition to any room. However, functionally it is not so great as the sand gets stuck in the little opening all the time and really will not manage to tell when 30 minutes have passed unless you constantly look at it and tap it to let the sand go down when it gets stuck. So if you are looking for functionality it will not perform great. Otherwise it is pretty.

Long since replaced with analog and digital time keepers, the hourglass, also called the sand clock, still fascinates with its simple elegance. This handsome model is expertly crafted from mouth-blown glass and set into a cherry finish wood frame with spindle columns and rubber-tipped "feet." 30 minutes per turn. A graceful decorative element for desk or shelf. 9.5" tall.
