(More customer reviews)Photos can be deceiving, and so I was prepared for a 'reality check' when I finally had this sundial in my hands. But, unlike many disappointments in the past, this is a wonderfully made unit.
If you have a male friend who has everything and want to get him a special gift, this could be it. Attractive, mechanical ajustments, professional features.
That being said, it doesn't come with instructions. So once you unfold it, you use the compass (there's a compass needle lock on the side) to align Noon with North. Then you use the elevating table to adjust it's angle to your latitude.
Now you can read the correct Solar time. It won't be the correct local time, because we've imposed time zones on different areas of the globe. (There are compensations for this, but they're not applicable to this sundial.)
But then sundials were never intended as chronometers.
Tell time like the ancient Egyptians when they were building their magnificent pyramids, get one of these sundials.

A Working Wonder. If we had a category just for customers who lust after Jules Verne inventions and elegant gadgetry, this would be in it. The wonderful brass sundial, a reproduction of an antique, is approx 3" dia x 11/16" thick overall, and actually works! A latitudinal gauge lets you tilt the engraved dial to the correct angle for your location, and a bubble and three leveling feet allow the 1-1/2" dia lock-down compass to point in the precise direction. And if you never took it out into the sunshine, you'd still love it for the look and logic of it.

(More customer reviews)This is a quality product for the money but mine shipped in a time warp. It clocked in at 1 min 10 seconds which is a bit off for a one minute timer.
Luckily you can unscrew the brass container, peel back some tape and remove sand until you get it to the time you want. But this issue earned it only 3 stars.

This antique style hourglass is constructed from brass. Its running time is about 1 minute and the height is about 3.5".

Hourglasses were one of the few ways of measuring time out at sea. It's been suggested that their use started as early as the 11th century. Magellan even carried 18 hourglasses on each of his ships during his trip around the globe. His pages used them to provide the time for the ship's log. From the 1400s they have been used in capacities ranging from kitchen timers to industrial uses.

Infinity Instruments Rusty Gears Resin Wall Clock Review

(More customer reviews)This is a very nice clock, but what no one tells you is that it sticks out from the wall about 3-4 inches. To expose the rusty gears, they have to be behind the clock. It's a beautiful clock, but I wish I would have known that, because I had to change spots for it. It was way too nice to return!

(More customer reviews)This is a very stylish wall clock, it's very large, make sure you use a tape measure before you put it on the wall.
A few things, the price on this is great, but conversely you get what you pay for. It's definitely art and not old used industrial pieces. It's made out of lightweight tin (i think) its very easy to bend if you aren't very careful with it.
It's got your classic tick tock sound to it and can be very loud if you aren't used to it. The mounting points are not even so you can't level them ahead of time it basically needs to be mounted by eye, so you will need help. Overall I like it, just wish that it was made of stronger materials.

I bought this as a gift for a collector in my family, for whom I have been purchasing hourglasses for the past decade. I value real brass and unique styles, so this seemed to be perfect. However, when the description says "brass frame," they mean Brass-colored thin metal, or at best, VERY cheap brass.
The piece arrived with visible splotches of rough discoloration (not to be buffed or polished away - I tried), and was crookedly mounted on a thin wood base. The base is almost too lightweight to support the frame, and seems unsteady.
If you are looking for a cheap decor piece that will last a couple years, this one's fine, but if you want a piece that can be passed down to successive collectors, look elsewhere.
Amazon, however, did an excellent job with shipping quality and speed. Super saver shipping got here within a week (unheard-of from them), with no issues!

(More customer reviews)This was not a bad clock for the first few weeks after I purchased it. The radio controlled atomic time feature is actually kind of cool and the clock was quite accurate. However, it is extremely difficult to see the display unless you are at exactly the correct angle. And then after a month or so the display started to disappear bit by bit. One day the alarm did not go off and I wound up running very late to work. Now after what I consider to be an exceptionally short period of time the display has completely disappeared. Nothing. Needless to say, I will not be purchasing any clocks from Sharp in the future based upon my experience with this one.

(More customer reviews)I am always fascinated by clocks which tell the time in unusual ways. This clock, designed by David Dear in 2003, was unlike anything else I had in my collection so I couldn't resist purchasing it. It has a pleasing appearance and feels substantial when held, not flimsy like many clocks with plastic parts (it is partly made of metal). The top has a small round opening which clicks off the seconds. The minutes and hours are easy to read and clearly lined up with the red line which indicates the time. The clock is easy to set and it runs on one AA battery. What impresses me the most is how amazingly accurate it keeps the time, which if course is the most important reason to have a clock. I keep checking it day to day against my computer time and it is right on the mark. The only drawback to its design is that it does not have an alarm and is strictly designed to read the time. If you are interested in owning an accurate timepiece, that is also a designed beautifully as well as being a conversation starter, this clock will fit the bill perfectly.

(More customer reviews)Its difficult to understand this clock if you haven't seen it run, so here you go. When we first got it, it was jerky and neither ran evenly, correctly, nor quietly. A bit of inspection showed a wire from a battery was interfering with one of the gears. Moving that down, out of the way, has completely solved that problem. It now runs smoothly, correctly, and quietly.
The wire problem does highlight the only drawback, which is that the outer rider gears are being driven by the motor that drives the hands. So if something gets shoved up against it to block the outer gears, the clock will not tell time correctly. It also makes a click-click noise when this happens, so I've always noticed, but it could easily happen that you didn't.
