Oregon Scientific RAR186 Wireless Indoor-Outdoor Thermometer Review

Oregon Scientific RAR186 Wireless Indoor-Outdoor Thermometer
Average Reviews:

This wireless indoor-outdoor thermometer works as advertised. Its remote sensors have very good range and seem quite accurate. It was frustrating to set up because the instructions were not very clear. Once you figure out how to set up the sensors and base, you should write down how you did it. If you don't write it down you'll get frustrated when you have to change the batteies in one of the sensors.

La Crosse Technology TX2000 Discovery Channel Wireless Temperature Station Review

La Crosse Technology TX2000 Discovery Channel Wireless Temperature Station

I received my TX2000 as a Christmas present six years ago. It has been reliable and
very accurate until today when it totally failed. That is a pretty good life span
for a unit of this price. I kept my outdoor unit in a zip lock baggy and placed it
where the sun would never hit it directly. The only two negative things about is is
there is no loop to hang the outdoor unit from and it is not water tight. If they would
improve the outdoor unit to include those two things, the product would be fantastic.

Dress appropriate for cold weather by monitoring outside temperatures with this Discovery Channel wireless temperature station from industry leader, La Crosse Technology. Simple in design, the temperature station allows users to check outdoor temperatures while keeping an eye on the indoor climate for energy efficiency and maximum comfort. The temperature station also benefits from an atomic clock, resetting the time according to radio transmissions from the US Atomic Clock for precision.
The temperature station’s indoor receiver stands alone for tabletop placement or mounts on a wall. With eight-contrast settings, the LCD screen relates the time, date, and indoor and outdoor temperatures. Using the primary button interface, the user can select the appropriate time zone, turn off the atomic clock, override automatic DST, choose 12- or 24-hour times and Fahrenheit or Celsius readings, and check the MIN/MAX recorded temperatures. A secondary button interface, located behind a shield on the receiver’s face, enables setting the unit’s two alarms, adjusting the snooze function from 0 to 30 minutes, and displaying the date and alarms. The remote TX6U sensor evaluates the outdoor temperature and transmits it to the receiver from a maximum distance of 80 feet. The sensor registers temperatures ranging from -21.8 to +157.8 degrees F; the receiver measures indoor temperatures from +14.2 to +139 degrees F. Equipped with a bracket for wall or upright installation, shelter the sensor from direct sunlight and rain for successful operation. This system accommodates up to three outdoor sensors. For power, the receiver and sensor require the separate purchase of two AA alkaline batteries apiece. A limited one-year warranty covers this item. The receiver measures approximately 3 inches wide by 1 inch deep by 7-1/2 inches high, and the sensor measures 1-1/2 inches wide by 4/5 inch deep by 5 inches high.

Not bad. I bought this one to replace a wired unit I had. It is very good at relaying an accurate temperature. The atomic clock is tricky, but works if you have a clear path to the northern sky. The channels went astray a couple of times, but once they are locked in they do well. I would recommend this product.

This is a great digital thermometer which works very well. It remembers the lowest and highest temperatures it measures, which is great for recording those low morning temps, and it also displays the time. Initial set up is very easy and straightforward. The batteries last at least a year. The only downside is that the outdoor transmitter is not weatherproof, so it has to be protected from the elements. Other than that, this is a quality, inexpensive, digital thermometer which I recommend.

Acu-Rite 00831 Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer Review

Acu-Rite 00831 Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This indoor outdoor thermometer is very easy to use and set up. I like the wireless technology, although the stated maximum distance for the placing the sensor of up to 100 feet away might be overly optimistic. I originally placed the sensor about 20 feet from the unit and then relocated it closer for better results.
Resetting the minimum/maximum setting is as easy as holding down the celsius/fahrenheit button on the rear of the thermometer for three seconds.
Two minor issues-
The sending unit is not waterproof, and needs to be protected from inclement weather. I eventually placed mine in the tool tray of my garden hose reel. The instructions suggested to placing it under a soffit or overhang, however a decorative little bird house would work well too.
In very cold weather, single digits and below, the manufacturer recommends lithium ion batteries for the sending unit, as alkaline batteries don't perform as well in very cold conditions.

Taylor 1523 Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer and Hygrometer Review

Taylor 1523 Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer and Hygrometer
Average Reviews:

This product is not worth $10. Its temperature and humidity gauge is barely functional. The construction is shoddy, the backlight does not work, even with fully charged 1 AAA battery, the screen is only visible at 40-50% opacity, and sometimes is completely not visible unless you tilt it up and down and keep adjusting and maybe it'll come back on. If they had priced it at $3.99 it would have been more worth it. I'm very disappointed.

For quick and simple info on atmospheric conditions, the Taylor 1523 monitor tracks both temperature and humidity levels on a straightforward screen. Outfitted with a wire probe for placing outside, the unit toggles between outdoor temp and indoor temp readings. Its humidity display is just below and slightly smaller than the temp readout. The numeric layout is large and readable, and a backlight makes visibility easier. For long-term tracking, the model also includes high/low recall for both temperature and humidity. Built with a handy little flip stand, the piece runs on a single AAA battery, which is not included.

Holmes Digital Thermometer and Hygrometer Review

Holmes Digital Thermometer and Hygrometer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This unit provides both temperature and relative humidity readouts. You can check both inside and outside temperatures in either Fahrenheit of Celsius. The outside temperature is provided to the display through a wire attached sensor. I located the display near a window and ran the wire under the lower sash and over the exterior sill, so that it was not necessary to drill any holes.
The indoor and outdoor temperature sensors are accurate (relative to each other) within an error of about 2 degrees Fahrenheit. This was determined by leaving a unit inside for a day, and noting both indoor and outdoor sensor readings, with both sensors indoors measuring the same ambient temperature. The difference between them was about two degrees.
The relative humidity readout of one unit, of the two I purchased on sale, has stayed permanently stuck at 20% and is, thus, of no value. The second unit's hygrometer, although not frozen, is inaccurate. I use the unit with the most accurate temperature readouts for indoor and outdoor temperature readings, which are usually within two degrees of other thermometers around the house.
The main goal motivating these purchases was to get reasonably accurate relative humidity readings. Owing to the failure of the two units I purchased to provide adequate humidity readings, and their temperature inaccuracies, the Holmes Digital Thermometer and Hygrometer is not recommended.

I make most of my shopping choices based on Amazon ratings ... and as I was trying to find a thermometer; from reading other ratings, I found that I wanted one with a wire, rather than wireless - I wanted a simple thermometer with maximum and minimum temperatures and it needed to have big numbers and no clock or humidity and I found it all in this Sper Scientific indoor-outdoor thermometer with minimum & maximum - it is perfect - works really great so far - Sper [...] makes much more complicated scientific tools, that is why I went with this unrated thermometer. In the past I have had poor experiences with Oregon Scientific and Lacrosse being too complicated ... this one is great!

This is my third Springfield Wireless Thermometer. The other two worked fine for extended periods until the Florida weather finally ate them up. I put the new units exactly where I had the two previous units but this one will not maintain contact with the base station. The range of the wireless should be the same but this new unit cannot communicate unless the units are near each other.
Don't know if I got a bad unit or if the new units have much less wireless range than the older units.Cannot recommend this unit unless they are within about 10 meters of each other.

This does exactly what we want it to do. Super easy to set up and accurate in its reading. We didn't need all of the extra information the other models offered. Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer With Clock and Calendar Review

Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer With Clock and Calendar
Average Reviews:

I've been using similar accurite instruments and have been pleased with their performance. With the atomic clocks there will occasionally be a malfunction but it usually only occurs once and then when you reset the clock it self-corrects. Currently I have 4 units in operation and they've been in operation for 4 months. My outside temps are dropping into the single digits and still no problems to report. Two of my units have 2 remote sensors they've synchronized with. I have alot of redundancy with my set up and enough monitoring stations to have a handle on inside, outside and intemediary temps and humidity. The reliability thus far has been very high. I've dealt with accurite's customer service and found it to be satisfactory. From my experiece with this company I'd be inclined to recommend the purchase of this product. When they say the quality is as good as can be achieved for this price range, I would believe them. They will most likely replace the product at no cost to you if the product you buy malfunctions. These are excellent gadgets if you are a temperature geek like me. I know things change but right now I am highly satisfied with this company and will continue buying these instruments from them.

Oregon Scientific RMR682A Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer with Self-Setting Atomic Clock Review

Oregon Scientific RMR682A Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer with Self-Setting Atomic Clock
Average Reviews:

Okay i ordered this item a few weeks ago and i love it, now i do agree that the issue with the freeze warning is annoying, whenever the item comes down to 37 degrees F it will beep, but if you do the simple thing that i will describe it will not do that.
Okay this item has three channels, only the first channel sets off the alarm. so if you put the switch on the outdoor unit to channel 2 or 3 then press the reset button, then tell the recieving unit that it will be looking for something on channel 2 or 3 (press and hold channel and Memory). this will take care of it.
now about the batteries, yes if your outdoor unit will be in temperatures under -4 degrees you will need lithium ion batteries, if you go to the store a pack of four (you only need two for the outdoor unit) costs about 2 dollars more than a regular batteries and they last longer and go last all the way down till -40 degrees.
Atomic clock, mine would not connect at first, so i walked outside and told it to search again, then after about a minute it found it and i brought it inside and it works great.
Enjoy the product, i love it

AcuRite Digital Wireless Weather Thermometer Indoor/Outdoor, 00604 Review

AcuRite Digital Wireless Weather Thermometer Indoor/Outdoor, 00604
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After figuring three things out that weren't in the instructions, this works perfectly.
1. After installing the batteries (not included) in both the main unit and the wireless sensor, I had to press the reset buttons with the end of a paper clip in both units to make the main unit display the outside temp.
2. Out of the box, it takes several hours for both of the temperatures to "settle in." Actual indoor temp was 71, outdoor was 16 -- both initially showed 80, and slowly dropped from there to the correct temp. Now, they seem to go up and down in "real time."
3. The directions for setting the time say to press the "alarm" button after setting the hour in order to set the minutes. Actually, you have to press the "time" button again, and then press "time" after setting the minutes in order to save the new time.
A couple of other notes. This has a nice size display (numbers are approximately 1 inch high) and is easy to see. There's a backlight button in case the room is really dark, but I can read it in shadows even without the backlight. The main unit has a stand so it can sit on a table -- or you can hang it on the wall. If so, you'll have to provide your own screw to hang it on -- ditto if you want to hang the outside transmitter.
Batteries are not included. You need two AAA size and two AA size. If you live in an area where the temp could conceivably go below 20 degrees, the AA's need to be lithium as alkaline won't work below 20 degrees. Even with lithiums in the outside transmitter, it won't work below minus 4 according to the package info.
We live in a very small house and have some other wireless devices -- a wireless printer for the PC, a heater with a remote, digital frame with remote, the standard TV, satellite box, DVD player and stereo (all with remotes), cell phones and the like. The instructions say to keep the main unit more than 10 feet from ALL of these. No way to do that in a house as small as ours, but we have not experienced any interference.
From reading some reviews of similar products (which I did before deciding to get this), it seems that keeping it simple works for this unit. You set the clock, so you don't have to worry about it getting the signal from the Atomic Clock or getting it to read the right time zone. There's no ice alarm to start buzzing every minute when the temperature hovers near freezing. And finally, while I would have liked an indoor/outdoor thermometer with humidity, after reading the reviews I decided that the inexpensive units just weren't reliable enough on the humidity to justify the expense . . . and the ones that seemed to work well were out of my budget.
This unit doesn't do a lot of fancy things, but it does what it says it will do. For me, that deserves 5 stars.

Springfield 91655 Wireless Digital Outdoor Thermometer with Hydrometer and Clock Review

Springfield 91655 Wireless Digital Outdoor Thermometer with Hydrometer and Clock
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased mine locally for $15. Since I don't have a super-accurate thermometer near it to verify the readings, I can't tell how perfectly accurate it is, but comparing it to nearby local weather stations I see on wunderground, it's in the neighborhood. It appears to want to be a little on the high side.
It also seems to take its time adjusting to the exact temperature. I installed it a few days ago, and when I took the remote unit outside, it took a few hours before the displayed temperature got down to the actual 55 degrees outside.
My list of minor annoyances:
The outdoor sensor is NOT waterproof. You have to locate it where it will be protected from any rain.
The temperature range is odd: -4F -158F. Here in Boston, the temperature drops below -4F almost every winter at some point. Knowing exactly how low it got would be handy. But 158F?? Does Death Valley ever get that high?
The indoor display unit doesn't have anything on the back to allow you to hang it on the wall. It only has this flimsy fold-out stand that I broke within the first hour.
I think that if the outdoor temperature doesn't change for a certain amount of time, the reading goes blank " -- -- ".
The humidity reading is indoors only. Outdoors would have been more helpful.
