Timex TX6130 Wireless Three-Window Indoor/Outdoor Electronic Thermometer with Hygrometer Review

I liked the freeze alert & humidity sensor. The user manual says it is accurate to +/- 5%. The outdoor sensor cannot be placed within 6ft of a TV/Computer monitor/metal, etc. It also needs to be protected (somewhat) from the elements. Inexpensive 20.

They say it's not the heat, but the humidity. Well fret not, because the versatile Timex TX6130 wireless electronic thermometer displays both at the same time. The compact unit--which sits unobtrusively on a desktop, table, or shelf--sports a trio of LCDwindows with bold, conspicuous readouts. The top window displays the indoor temperature, the middle window displays your choice of the indoor relative humidity or time, and the bottom window shows the outdoor temperature. As a result, you can instantly gauge whether to wear shorts or pants on a seemingly mild summer day, make sure the humidity level is correct in the greenhouse, or crank the air conditioner as the afternoon progresses. The temperature readings range from 32 to 122 degrees F (0 to 50 degrees C) for the indoor temperature to 14 to 122 degrees F (-10 to 50 degrees C) for the outdoor temperature. The relative humidity, meanwhile, is measured on a scale of 20 to 90 percent, with the hygrometer performing best between 40 and 70 percent.
The TX6130 is remarkably easy to read--even from across the room--thanks to the pronounced digits, which measure 0.62 inches tall. Even better, the system comes with a wireless remote sensor/transmitter that measures the outdoor temperature from up to 100 feet away. The extended range of the wireless transmitter lets you place the main station virtually anywhere without losing the remote signal. Both the main station and the transmitter come with integral fold-out table stands for shelf or desk placement, along with built-in keyhole slots for wall mounting. Note, however, that the remote sensor should not be exposed to direct sunlight and must be protected from rain, snow, and wind.
The TX6130 also features a minimum/maximum memory function that records the high and low temperatures and humidity levels of the day. The values are available at the push of a button, with a second button clearing and resetting the memory on command. And gardeners will love the unit's Freeze Alert function, which sounds an audible five-second beep every minute and flashes a "Freeze" icon once the temperature falls into the freezing zone of 37.4 to 30.2 degrees F (3 to -1 degrees C). The alert gives you plenty of time to move sensitive plants indoors or protect the roots of larger plants outdoors. Users can also mute the beep or turn the alert off completely.
The TX6130's built-in clock is no slouch, either, with settings for 12-hour (with AM and PM) and 24-hour modes along with an alarm and a five-minute snooze button. Add in a snazzy white housing, an iPod-like control panel, and a red LED on the transmitter and you have an attractive, highly functional thermometer that's ideal for kitchens, greenhouses, saunas, and a host of other locations. Power requirements include three AAA batteries for the main unit and three more AAA batteries for the transmitter (not included), with alkaline batteries recommended in most cases.
The TX6130's main station measures 2.06 by 6.94 by 0.94 inches (W x H x D) without the stand, while the remote sensor checks in at 3.06 inches in diameter and 1.06 inches deep. The entire bundle is backed by a one-year factory warranty.
What's in the Box Main station, wireless remote sensor, integral table stands for each unit, user's manual.

This wireless indoor-outdoor thermometer works as advertised. Its remote sensors have very good range and seem quite accurate. It was frustrating to set up because the instructions were not very clear. Once you figure out how to set up the sensors and base, you should write down how you did it. If you don't write it down you'll get frustrated when you have to change the batteies in one of the sensors.

Oregon Scientific BAR638HGA Weather Forecaster with Temperature and Humidity

We love this product immensely. It works great, for the month plus that we have had it, it has not needed new batteries. We love all the features on it, including humidity inside and outside, the atomic clock, and the capacity for more remote sensors. We plan to purchase another remote sensor for the upstairs of our house. The only thing that has not been helpful for us on it is the forecast picture. In the directions it says to put the remote sensor in an area that is not in direct sun, but in direct view of the sky (in my own words of course). Well, I have found this to be difficult to accomplish. We have settled with out of direct sun. As a result the forecast goes from rainy, cloudy, and sunny, all within a day, with no possible chance here in California of having rain in the summer, so that part of the device is not useful at all. But the unit itself looks very nice, so we would recommend this product to anyone who does not care about the forecast part of it.

This is an attractive design with good build quality and heft. The latter is no doubt to add stability to the tall form, especially since the device also works as an alarm clock with the snooze button at the top. The button doubles as a light, which I find very useful late at night or in the early morning as I can read the display without having to turn a light on.
Setup was pretty straightforward, except that inserting batteries into the remote sensor was way more hassle than I expected. The lid to that compartment is secured by tiny Philips head screws which my regular screwdriver cannot fit. If I didn't have a miniature screwdriver set, I couldn't have put this unit into service.
I can't rely on the self-setting clock. I've owned several Oregon Scientific clocks and the signal these devices need to receive are too weak to work in New York City. So come daylight savings time (tonight), I have to turn back the clock manually.
The device is supposed to predict weather conditions 12 to 24 hours ahead, and for the most part provides a good indication. However, the wide time window means this is no substitute for detailed TV or internet forecasts. One morning it actually displayed the sunny symbol while rain and drizzle continued into the night. Well, at least it keeps the kids amused.
All I really wanted was a remote outdoor thermometer. I ended up buying this model because the dedicated thermometers on amazon.com are ugly, and the price was right. I'm pretty satisfied with it.

La Crosse Technology TX2000 Discovery Channel Wireless Temperature Station Review

La Crosse Technology TX2000 Discovery Channel Wireless Temperature Station

I received my TX2000 as a Christmas present six years ago. It has been reliable and
very accurate until today when it totally failed. That is a pretty good life span
for a unit of this price. I kept my outdoor unit in a zip lock baggy and placed it
where the sun would never hit it directly. The only two negative things about is is
there is no loop to hang the outdoor unit from and it is not water tight. If they would
improve the outdoor unit to include those two things, the product would be fantastic.

Dress appropriate for cold weather by monitoring outside temperatures with this Discovery Channel wireless temperature station from industry leader, La Crosse Technology. Simple in design, the temperature station allows users to check outdoor temperatures while keeping an eye on the indoor climate for energy efficiency and maximum comfort. The temperature station also benefits from an atomic clock, resetting the time according to radio transmissions from the US Atomic Clock for precision.
The temperature station’s indoor receiver stands alone for tabletop placement or mounts on a wall. With eight-contrast settings, the LCD screen relates the time, date, and indoor and outdoor temperatures. Using the primary button interface, the user can select the appropriate time zone, turn off the atomic clock, override automatic DST, choose 12- or 24-hour times and Fahrenheit or Celsius readings, and check the MIN/MAX recorded temperatures. A secondary button interface, located behind a shield on the receiver’s face, enables setting the unit’s two alarms, adjusting the snooze function from 0 to 30 minutes, and displaying the date and alarms. The remote TX6U sensor evaluates the outdoor temperature and transmits it to the receiver from a maximum distance of 80 feet. The sensor registers temperatures ranging from -21.8 to +157.8 degrees F; the receiver measures indoor temperatures from +14.2 to +139 degrees F. Equipped with a bracket for wall or upright installation, shelter the sensor from direct sunlight and rain for successful operation. This system accommodates up to three outdoor sensors. For power, the receiver and sensor require the separate purchase of two AA alkaline batteries apiece. A limited one-year warranty covers this item. The receiver measures approximately 3 inches wide by 1 inch deep by 7-1/2 inches high, and the sensor measures 1-1/2 inches wide by 4/5 inch deep by 5 inches high.

Enviracaire E10 Digital Humidity/Temperature Indicator Review

Enviracaire E10 Digital Humidity/Temperature Indicator

We own four of these little hygrometers. I've found them to be accurate -- all are within 1-2% relative humidity of one another when placed next to each other (in general, hygrometers that are within 5% of each other are considered pretty accurate for low-cost, consumer-grade hygrometers). I have them dispersed throughout the house, so I can verify the temperature and humidity in each room.
The price is pretty reasonable, too. I like the look of these units, and their simplicity. The only "option" you can select is whether the temperature is in F or in C.
The first one we bought two years ago, and the battery is still going strong. I haven't checked the type of battery, though, to see what will be needed when replacing.
With this little tool, it's been easy maintaining the humidity in our house between 40-45% year round with the aid of three humidifiers.

Honeywell TS33C Temperature and Humidity Sensor with LCD Review

Honeywell TS33C Temperature and Humidity Sensor with LCD

I bought this to add to my Honeywell TM005X Wireless Thermo-Hygrometer which can monitor up to 3 remote stations.
I had purchased a wireless therm-hygro unit from WalMart earlier this year, but wasn't impressed with the quality and their accuracy. Took them back and ordered the TM005X with this additional remote. IMHO, the Honeywell units are much better.
I have the base station and 2 remotes. I've installed new foam insulation and an unvented roof in my new remodel. I use them to monitor temp and humidity in my basement, main floor and attic.
You line them up in the same room and the temps are all within 1 to 1.5 degs and the RH are within 2% to 3% of each other. I haven't calibrated the units yet, but so far I'd consider them a pretty good value.

Not bad. I bought this one to replace a wired unit I had. It is very good at relaying an accurate temperature. The atomic clock is tricky, but works if you have a clear path to the northern sky. The channels went astray a couple of times, but once they are locked in they do well. I would recommend this product.

This is a great digital thermometer which works very well. It remembers the lowest and highest temperatures it measures, which is great for recording those low morning temps, and it also displays the time. Initial set up is very easy and straightforward. The batteries last at least a year. The only downside is that the outdoor transmitter is not weatherproof, so it has to be protected from the elements. Other than that, this is a quality, inexpensive, digital thermometer which I recommend.

I've had the base & one remote sensor for four months. Temperature is accurate and I haven't had to replace the batteries yet. The large display is easy to read.
It's nice to know the outside temperature before getting up & dressed.
The flaw: The tenths of a degree position on the base unit's local temperature is faulty. That wasn't worth the trouble to return & replace, but it's a sign of sloppy quality control.

Acu-Rite 00831 Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer Review

Acu-Rite 00831 Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This indoor outdoor thermometer is very easy to use and set up. I like the wireless technology, although the stated maximum distance for the placing the sensor of up to 100 feet away might be overly optimistic. I originally placed the sensor about 20 feet from the unit and then relocated it closer for better results.
Resetting the minimum/maximum setting is as easy as holding down the celsius/fahrenheit button on the rear of the thermometer for three seconds.
Two minor issues-
The sending unit is not waterproof, and needs to be protected from inclement weather. I eventually placed mine in the tool tray of my garden hose reel. The instructions suggested to placing it under a soffit or overhang, however a decorative little bird house would work well too.
In very cold weather, single digits and below, the manufacturer recommends lithium ion batteries for the sending unit, as alkaline batteries don't perform as well in very cold conditions.

This item worked really well. I like to BBQ a lot and my wife and kids are very picky on meat being done. This solved all my problems. Has lots of temperature and meat settings and is fairly easy to operate. Don't forget to reset the two parts if you change the batteries! Didn't last the entire summer though, so there is some concern over the durability. Liked it enough to buy another however. Really good for thicker cuts like roasts and turkey. We have owned the silver unit (not the John Deere version) for over 6 years now and it has been reliable. We bought additional sensors for the unit multiple years after we bought the receiver and they worked as well. Now we have three remotes working. One outside, one in the garage, and one in the attic. I searched this item on Amazon in an attempt to buy another one for a gift, but I can only find the green one and I don't want the green one. Anyhow, I have multiple Oregon Scientific items and have had good luck with both of them. I guess they have created a loyal customer.

This product is not worth $10. Its temperature and humidity gauge is barely functional. The construction is shoddy, the backlight does not work, even with fully charged 1 AAA battery, the screen is only visible at 40-50% opacity, and sometimes is completely not visible unless you tilt it up and down and keep adjusting and maybe it'll come back on. If they had priced it at $3.99 it would have been more worth it. I'm very disappointed.

For quick and simple info on atmospheric conditions, the Taylor 1523 monitor tracks both temperature and humidity levels on a straightforward screen. Outfitted with a wire probe for placing outside, the unit toggles between outdoor temp and indoor temp readings. Its humidity display is just below and slightly smaller than the temp readout. The numeric layout is large and readable, and a backlight makes visibility easier. For long-term tracking, the model also includes high/low recall for both temperature and humidity. Built with a handy little flip stand, the piece runs on a single AAA battery, which is not included.
