NYC Holdings LLC 10504 Big Ben Clock Review

The picture of the clock shows one that was made in USA, but the clock I got was made in China so I am worried about its durability since I got a Chinese one that lasted less than 2 years and my American made one lasted 17 years. The clock looks differently from the picture as well.

(More customer reviews)I have had an affinity for Cuckoo clocks ever since I was a small child and was fascinated by my Grandmothers Cuckoo clock. They bring back fond memories and now I have a few and have given them to my family as gifts. I have always wanted a mantle version of a Cuckoo and it seemed a good time to try one of the Hubert Herr clocks that are available for a reasonable price.
Overall the quality seems good. The only exception is that on the right side, the seam where the base attaches to the main box, the finish is off. Apparently excess glue from assembly prevented the stain from getting into the wood leaving a red line along the seam. Not too noticable unless you are examining the clock but an eyesore nonetheless.
The clock functions well and keeps time so far. A charming clock that should last a lifetime with reasonable care.

This traditionally styled German cuckoo clock features wooden hands, a wood dial with Roman numerals, and a warm light yellow hand-painted and hand-carved cuckoo bird. The cuckoo clock case is surrounded by five deeply carved maple leaves with a single hand-carved bird seated at the peak of the roof. Two cast iron pine cone weights are suspended beneath the clock case by two seperate brass chains.The hand-carved maple leaf pendulum continously swings back and forth which controls the timing of the clock. If your cuckoo clock's timing should ever need adjustment, you can control the speed of your clock by sliding the maple leaf up or down the pendulum stick. Sliding the maple leaf down causes the cuckoo clock to run slightly slower, while sliding the maple leaf up makes the cuckoo clock run slightly faster.On every hour the cuckoo bird emerges from a swinging door above the clock dial and counts the hour by cuckooing once per hour. (Example: At one o'clock the bird will cuckoo once. At eight o'clock the bird will cuckoo eight times) The half hour is announced with one cuckoo call.The 30 hour all brass mechanical Regula movement, which is produced in the Black Forest of Germany, is wound once per day by raising the two pine cone weights. One weight powers the time and the other weight powers the cuckoo and cuckoo call.*Great effort has been made to portray each cuckoo clock as accurately as possible. (More customer reviews)I originally bought this item about 8-9 years ago as a gift for my girlfriend's roommate. At the time I bought the cow. She loved it and it was and is a hit at parties and with little kids. I bought two more since for my niece and nephew. They also like the clock and since I see them a great deal can comment on the quality and workmanship as they have now had them for the better part of 5 years.
I would recommend these clocks to anyone. There are so many styles now, that there would be one for any kid. You can turn of the cuckoo sound if you want by covering up the light sensor. I am now expecting my first child and will be buying this one for him.
Pro: Fun for all ages, lasts a very long time. Light sensor wont make too much noise after dark
Cons: Made from Plastic, but would cost way more if made from wood.
Bottom Line: Buy one. I have now purchased 4 over 9 years.

I was not crazy about how it hangs and used some sticky putty on the back at the base to keep it secure from movement. It would easily break if it ever fell and I also have it hung over a closet door way. All in all I'm very pleased.

1. It looks cheap. In the photo here on Amazon, it looks shiny like metal. In reality, it's a cheap-looking plastic.
2. The clock hand that sets the alarm moves in only one direction. So if you overshoot the time you want, you can't just nudge it back ... you have to go all the way around the face again.
3. It's very difficult to move the clock hand that sets the alarm. The dial for this is stiff and awkward. I have long, slender fingers and find it difficult. I imagine that someone with chubby fingers would find it impossible. Additionally, it's impossible to nudge the hand a little bit. So if you undershoot, you have to go all the way around again.
4. The hand that sets the alarm is very short, which means that the end of it is far from the numbers on the face. It's impossible to be precise about the alarm time you're setting.

After receiving it I was further impressed to see it has a hi/low setting for the night light, as well as off. An added feature is the extra large digits, helpful for people who have difficulty seeing at night without their glasses on! This ended up being a really impressive, inexpensive compact alarm clock! I'm glad I ordered it!

Advance Clamshell Travel Alarm Review

(More customer reviews)I was disappointed in this clock. The case is cheap plastic and the little mechanism that makes it sit upright doesn't work easily or rapidly, so you have to technique it to make it sit upright.
Additionally, the alarm is so quiet that I can't imagine it waking me, or anybody else.
I liked the second hand; I appreciated that it ran on a battery instead of winding, but the silent alarm and difficulty making it sit upright means this one goes in the GoodWill pile. It costs as much to ship it back as it cost.
A bad puchase, save your money.
