La Crosse Technology Weather Channel WS-2310TWC Professional Weather Station Review

I have had this weather station for about 4 weeks. It is working properly and does all the promised functions. Setup and installation were easy the manual covers all the needed points and has some good insights. The included monitoring program works well, but is not too deep and is difficult to modify or reprogram.
Overall I am satisfied with this product and I would recommend it.

La Crosse WS-8035U-IT Wireless 915mhz Forecast Station with Pressure Graph & In/Out Temps Review

La Crosse WS-8035U-IT Wireless 915mhz Forecast Station with Pressure Graph and In/Out Temps
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm a meteorologist. If I had it in my budget to get a professional weather station (like from Davis) for my home I would but until I do this station will serve nicely.
The display unit is nice and large, very easy to read. The base is narrow enough that I can set it on the kitchen window sill without worrying it will fall into the sink. The remote sensor is about 30-40 feet away, around the corner of the house. Our home has metal siding and the signal from the remote has to travel through two exterior walls and a window; we've had no reception problems.
The sensors are accurate. When I first put in the batteries (follow the instructions as another reviewer said) I let the outdoor sensor sit next to the indoor sensor for quite a while. The readings from the base unit and remote matched within 0.7 of a degree and 2% humidity.
The clock set itself within about an hour of putting in the batteries.
The base unit is easy to read and full of information. The unit records not only high and low temperature and humidity for both the indoor and outdoor sensors but also the date and time the reading was taken. If you were so inclined you could reset the measurements on 1 January, then on 31 December see when you had your highs and lows for the year.
I want to address a couple of comments by other reviewers. First, the specifications of the unit (found on page 23 of the manual downloadable from Amazon) clearly state the unit will only report outside temperatures to about -22F. Expecting La Crosse to do something about this is like buying a Geo Metro and complaining that you can't compete in NASCAR. The unit is not built for those extreme low temperatures. Don't buy it if it doesn't meet your needs.
Second, the Weather Channel reports measurements taken by a weather station (often at an airport or NWS office) that is in your cable viewing area. The Weather Channel is not reporting conditions in your backyard. Official measurments are taken using instruments housed in a shelter built to certain specifications, usually 4-6 feet off the ground. I've got my outdoor sensor stuck to the side of the house about 8-9 feet up. It's good enough for backyard meteorology but it's definitely doesn't meet requirements for official measurements.
Third, the reason the pressure tendency chart blinks (actually it's displayed in a scrolling fashion) is "to avoid burnout of the LCD". Manual, page 18, section I9.
Remember, the pressure displayed is station pressure. The values reported by the Weather Channel are converted to sea level pressure. Station pressure is affected by the height of the weather station; the higher you're located above sea level the lower the pressure displayed, compared to sea level pressure. Fortunately it's not the number that matters. What you're interested in as a weather watcher is the pressure tendency. If the pressure is dropping then look for worsening weather; likewise with increasing pressure you can expect conditions to improve.
All in all this is a nice package with many features found only on more expensive units.
------------------
Update 25 Aug 2007
------------------
The unit is still going strong after a year, though the outside sensor died. It fell off the side of the house a couple of times - it's possible that had something to do with it. Fortunately the replacement sensor is only $15 here on Amazon, though it doesn't come with a weather shield. I have it under an eave, but I still may seal the new sensor (La Crosse Technology TX6U Wireless Temperature Sensor) with silicon as a precaution.
I didn't realize how much I looked at the thing until the sensor died...I'm going through data withdrawal now.
Interestingly, the unit is now branded as "The Weather Channel" wireless weather station. When I bought this it was just a regular old wireless weather station. Perhaps TWC branding is the reason the price has gone up since last year.

La Crosse Technology Combo11-IT Wireless Weather Station Combo Pack Review

La Crosse Technology Combo11-IT Wireless Weather Station Combo Pack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had this weather station up and running for over a week, and it is doing well. My previous one was a sophisticated (and much more expensive) Oregon Scientific that died, with no chance of resurrection, a little over a year along. This evidently made me wary of the brand, so I decided to go for the La Crosse this time around, and keep it simpler.
The Combo11-IT is actually two weather stations -- one complete and one basic -- in one package, plus an external temperature and humidity sensor. The more complete station is the WS-9037U-IT and the basic one is the WS-9080UR-JT. There is no way you can apprehend this from reading the skimpy info in the product page, and I only found out when I received it. This two-in-one scheme is very handy because, for instance, you can have one station in the living room and the other one in the bedroom, and both are fed the same data from the external transmitter.
The more complete panel is very similar to other La Crosse models, and gives you:
* Time, in 12 or 24 hrs, and date (set by atomic clock if you live in the US, or manually if you don't)
* Moon phase
* Indoor temperature and humidity (celsius or fahrenheit and %, respectively), plus a comfort indicator icon that states the obvious
* Forecast, which is dependent on barometric pressure changes. Another set of icons, composed of an arrow and an image. Arrow can point upwards or downwards, and the icon can indicate "sunny", "cloudy with sunny intervals" or "rainy"
* Barometric pressure, in Hg or hPa
* Barometric pressure 24-hour history
* Outdoor temperature and humidity (C /F and %), plus the comfort indicator
You can also set the station to alarm clock mode with or without snooze, and customize several parameters, such as measuring units, forecast icon sensitivity, back-light intensity, etc., and see the maximum and minimum indoor and outdoor temps and humidity for the last 24 hours.
The basic panel gives you only time (12/24 hrs), indoor and outdoor temperatures (C or F) and minimum and maximum temperatures in the last 24 hours. It comes with its own little manual. You can set the time by the atomic clock or manually, and adjust the LCD display's contrast.
The weather-resistant outdoor transmitter only displays the current temperature reading in fahrenheit, which I found very odd. My stations are set to celsius (I am metric) and there is no way to set the transmitter to it. I emailed La Crosse about this -- the package contains helpful info about contacting them for support, including an email address -- but more than a week has passed and still no reply. I no longer expect one...
I advise you to read the manual, as there is a procedure to set up the main units and the transmitter, and all the configuring is done with 5 buttons on the right side. However, I found it easy and quick and got it right the first time around in a few minutes.
The readings from both units appear to be accurate enough. I put them in different rooms, in places with no direct sunlight, and the temperature variation between them is just 0.3 celsius (roughly 0.6F). The external transmitter reaches both units equally well.
Both units have a nice, discreet design and appear well built. The complete one has a very firm detachable stand or can be wall-mounted. The basic unit has a fold-in stand and can also be wall-hung.
The one thing that really daunted me was getting all the components out of their horrendous packaging. It was one of those impossible-to-cut-open plastic and cardboard setups that nearly made me send the whole thing back. But once I overcame this first hurdle (with a brand-new cut on my finger), the rest was easy.
I like the Combo11-IT pack and think that it is good value for the money. I just hope it lasts for a long time.

Keep an eye on the weather conditions from two different rooms in the house with the help of this La Crosse Technology wireless weather station combo. The combo provides a basic temperature station and a more sophisticated forecast station. For consistent readings between the two base units, both stations receive outdoor weather transmissions from the same TX29UDTH-IT wireless remote sensor. The two bases also benefit from atomic clocks, resetting daily via radio transmission with the US Atomic Clock in Colorado.
The temperature and forecast stations both display on their LCD screens the indoor temperature as measured in their respective locations, along with the date, the time, and, as relayed by the remote sensor, the outdoor temperature, ranging from -39.9 to 139.8 degrees F. Additionally, both bases convey the minimum and maximum indoor and outdoor temperatures. For further weather information, the forecast station assesses barometric pressure information, including tendency arrows and a 24-hour historical graph. The station utilizes this data and the outdoor temperature to forecast weather, indicated with three graphic icons. Endowed with selectable contrast and a LED backlight, the LCD display of forecast unit also includes twelve icons to denote the moon phase, an indoor comfort level icon, and indoor and outdoor humidity readings. The Swiss-precision sensor transmits to the two bases at a 915 MHz frequency from up to 330 feet away unobstructed. Place the sensor out of direct rain or sun for the best results. To power the combo components, the separate purchase of five AA batteries and two AAA batteries is required. A limited one-year warranty covers this package. The temperature station measures 3-3/4 inches wide by 3/4 inches deep by 5-1/3 inches high, while the forecast station measures 4-3/4 inches wide by 1-1/4 inches deep by 6-4/5 inches high.

La Crosse Technology WS-1516-IT Professional Weather Center Review

La Crosse Technology WS-1516-IT Professional Weather Center
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have another weather station which is not as fancy and it works fine. This (La Cross WS-1516 IT) one I just bought measures wind and rain as well. I have had SEVERAl problems with it. I had difficult getting it to measure rain...then wind and rain. Because I live in San Diego...months went by without rain so I did not know it was not working properly. The LaCross staff was VERY GOOD about helping and communicating via email and offering to take a return for service. The problem is that the unit is VERY, VERY, VERY (did I say VERY) sensitive to the AA and AAA batteries used in the unit. Care MUST be taken to the EXACT sequence of putting the batteries. One MUST find batteries that are AT LEAST good for 7-8 years of the date used (marked on the battery package). A specific time MUST be respected throughout the set up sequence i.e. "Wait 15 miniutes before proceeding....". They mean this. I must have done the set up sequence 20 times now. I must have gone through 10 sets/combinations of batteries. Now that I truly understand how important all this is...it seems to work great. LaCross should print in big letters:"LOOK YOU STUPID TWIT!! READ THE INSTRUCTIONS AND DO EXACTLY WHAT IT SAYS...OR ELSE THE UNIT WILL NOT WORK!" The sort of tell you that batteries are important..but they do not stress just HOW important and WHY until they finally send you an email with VERY clear and good set up instructions. I respect the LaCross crew for being helpful and patient...but it is a hard and painful learning curve....

Beveled Atomic Wall Clock with Weather Icons Review

Beveled Atomic Wall Clock with Weather Icons
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I received this unit 2 years ago as a Christmas present. At the time I didn't realize it was atomic and had had bad luck with another wireless temperature gauge.
It has become one of my favorite household furnishings! The clock is large and easy to read, it is also atomic, so I never have to set it and it is ALWAYS right. The initial setup takes about 5 minutes and it's worth sitting in a comfy chair and investing a few minutes with the manual to get your time zone and other settings correct. The wireless sensor has a decent range on it and will go through a couple of walls (note, place the sensor in an area that will receive no sunlight, otherwise it will give a falsely high reading).
It is also a battery miser, I have never changed the batteries in the sensor or wall unit, 2 years going!
The temperature readings appear to be surprisingly accurate in comparison with internet temps. Also, I don't know how the middle icon gets it's information to display the weather but it's usually right.
If there is one drawback it's that there is no back-lighting option. I wish it had an indi-glo feature or something similar.
Also this has a nice wooden coloring to it vs. the silver and stainless looking clocks which I think is nice for displaying in the home.
Get one, I use mine every single day multiple times and it's a great value based clock.
(note: my actual clock has an oak coloring to it, I'm not sure this color was available 2 years ago)

La Crosse Technology TX7U Temperature Sensor Review

La Crosse Technology TX7U Temperature Sensor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this TX7U sensor as an added measurement zone for a La Crosse/The Weather Channel Weather display that I bought over a year ago to monitor my front and back yards - the system originally used TX4U sensors that read temperature and humidity and relayed the data by UHF telemetry to the base display. Since the TX4U is no longer available, I purchased the TX7U, which is fully compatible. The nice thing about the TX7U is that in addition to sending live data to a base display up to 300 feet away, that it also has a built-in LCD display that shows the actual temperature and relative humidity (no need to go back to the base display to see what is being sent). I use this sensor as my third zone (my base unit displays up to 3 zones) inside my greenhouse, where I overwinter tropical palm specimens that wouldn't survive the rare freezes we see in So. Cal. every 15 to 17 years. Now I can wake up in the middle of a cold night and glance over at the base display and see what the conditions in my greenhouse actually are. I highly recommend this sensor and the LaCrosse product line.

Monitor outdoor weather conditions from multiple locations of a yard by adding an extra wireless temperature sensor to a household La Crosse Technology weather station. The TX7U thermo-hygro sensor conveys outdoor temperature and humidity readings to a weather station receiver to enable users to plan appropriately for brisk, hot, or muggy weather. Additionally, the sensor benefits from a small LCD screen to display the temperature and relative humidity percentage.
For use with any La Crosse weather stations aside from the Professional Weather Series, or as a replacement for the obsolete TX4U sensor model, the TX7U sensor transmits to the receiver at a 433.92 MHz frequency from a distance of up to 330 feet. The sensor records outdoor relative humidity from 1 to 99 percent, while its outdoor temperature measurement capabilities range from -21.8 to +157.8 degrees F. To ensure the most accurate readings, install the sensor out of direct rain and sunlight. The sensor comes with a mounting bracket and hardware for stand alone or wall mounting. For power the sensor, the separate purchase of two AA batteries is required. A limited one-year warranty covers this item. The sensor measures 1-3/4 inches wide by 1 inch deep by 6-1/5 inches high and weighs 1 pound upon shipping.

White Analog Kitchen Clock / Wall Clock by Ikea ~ Diameter 9.75
Average Reviews:

I bought this to put in my basement so that I could tell the time when I was down there. My requirements were that the clock had to be cheap, and look semi-good.
For my situation this clock works fine. If you plan on using this clock to compliment your existing decor in your living quarters, you will be disappointed. This is why...
The clock costs about ten bucks but looks like it's worth only 3. It actually looks more like a toy. It is made of a cheap plastic that you can probably rip with some effort. It is extremely flimsy and lightweight. The clock is not silent and it does make a ticking sound. Not really loud but annoying if you plan on using it in a quiet room while you are reading or sleeping.
It does look better than a standard office clock IMO. I can't stand those office clocks because they remind me of the clocks you find in hospitals or in the operating rooms and they creep me out.
So again, if you plan on putting this in a basement or a garage, it should be fine. The quality of this unit prevents me from recommending it for use anywhere else.

La Crosse Technology Weather Direct WD-3308U-WAL 4 Day Internet Powered Wireless Forecaster Review

La Crosse Technology Weather Direct WD-3308U-WAL 4 Day Internet Powered Wireless Forecaster
Average Reviews:

I like the way this unit gathers all the information from the internet without needing your computer running. All the important information is there. However the presentation is poor. The three day advance weather forecast is displayed in the middle, therefore there is no need to have it scroll across the bottom which is hard to read. It comes with an outside temp probe but you can not display the outside temp easily, you have to wait till it scrolls across the bottom. The daily forecast is broken up in AM PM Evening etc. However it would be nice if it changed with current time of day, but it doesn't you have to cycle through it manually. Too much scrolling and not a constant display of current conditions. It's a shame, it has all the information you would want, but just does a poor job of displaying it. I returned it.

La Crosse Technology WS-9080U-IT Wireless Temperature Station Review

La Crosse Technology WS-9080U-IT Wireless Temperature Station
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I chose this device because all I really wanted was indoor and outdoor temperature in a small, non-obtrusive design. This is the only weather station that fit my bill. For $30, you get the indoor unit, which is very thin and has a big, easy to read display with indoor and outdoor temperature along with the high and low for the day. It can sit on a table or hang on the wall. The outdoor unit has a multi-position bracket, and easily mounts using two screws in a weather-protected place (like under an eave). I enjoy getting up and seeing what the temperature is so I don't have to go "feel" what it's like.
March 29, 2010 - One year later, this unit is still doing just fine. I am thrilled the batteries have lasted over a year in the outdoor unit.

Straightforward, useful, and wireless to boot, the WS-9080U-IT temperature station from La Crosse Technology tells at a glance what the thermometer is up to. Great for tracking garden conditions and preparing for the day’s adventures, the 2-piece unit includes an indoor display and an outdoor sensor. The receiver screen simultaneously shows indoor and outdoor temperatures, as well as continuously tracking minimum and maximum temps. For added convenience, the station also tells unfailingly precise time by means of atomic clock transmissions and displays the date in the upper corner. To gauge wine cellars, green houses, and outbuildings, the station can also accommodate up to two additional outdoor sensors.
Measuring 5-2/5 by 3-3/4 by 3/4 inches, the receiver features a tabletop stand and communicates with the sensor up to 330 feet away, assuming obstruction is minimal. The sensor measures 5 by 1-1/2 by 7/8 inches and has an outdoor temp range of -39.8 to 157.8 degrees F. Both units require two AA batteries, which are not included.

La Crosse Technology WS-1025 Digital Window Thermometer Review

La Crosse Technology WS-1025 Digital Window Thermometer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I like everything about the thermometer except its most important feature: the outside temperature is too strongly influenced by the inside temperature.
Ok, so I have it installed at my place in the mountains where the difference at night on the inside/outside termperatures can be forty degrees or more. Many mornings I check this thermometer with two other outside thermometers and find the other two may read, for example, 15 degrees and this one will read 35 degrees. It will be 60 degrees inside.
My window is double-paned, but that still does not insulate sufficiently to produce unreliable outside readings.
When not window-mounted and placed by other thermometers, the readings are acceptable and consistent.

Bundle up accordingly after a glance out the window to check the outside temperature on this digital window thermometer. Made by La Crosse Technology, the weather-resistant thermometer lies flat against any window, mounted with an adhesive strip. The thermometer’s clear, UV-shield protected screen conveys the current temperature in large black digits in the center of the screen. With a temperature accuracy of +/-1.5 degrees F, the thermometer measures temperatures ranging from -13 to +158 degrees F. Additionally, the thermometer tracks the minimum and maximum temperatures and resets daily with an internal clock. The minimum temperature is displayed in small digits below the current temperature and resets at 8 PM, while the maximum temperature is posted above the current temperature and resets at 8 AM. For operation, the thermometer requires the separate purchase and installation of one AAA battery. Remove the plastic tab from the positive terminal in the battery compartment and set the internal clock before mounting. For the best results, mount the thermometer out of direct sunlight on a clean, dry surface. The thermometer detaches for window cleaning. This item is covered by a limited one-year warranty. The thermometer measures 4 inches wide by 3/4 inches deep by 3-3/4 inches high and weighs 1 pound upon shipping.

Bought this clock on sale at KOHLS for next to nothing.
Great looking piece and easy to read the numbers BUT there were no instructions on how to set it and the website does not show this model.
I am still trying to get it off of Daylight Savings Time since we don't go there.
If it had instructions I would rate it 5 stars.

La Crosse Technology TX6U Wireless Temperature Sensor Review

La Crosse Technology TX6U Wireless Temperature Sensor

The specs on this unit are +/- 2 degrees "under normal conditions". That probably means "at room temperature." At winter temps, freezing and below, this unit is over 5 degrees off. La Crosse more or less admits to this on their web site. The saddest thing is that the LaCrosse base stations display outside temperatures to 1/10th of a degree - for a sensor that is +/- 2 degrees at best and generally not even that close.
